ChatGPT-powered PC parts picker fails to impress

Online PC hardware store Newegg recently launched a beta of its PC parts picker that comes with ChatGPT-powered suggestions, but getting advice from a human PC building expert might be the better way to go.

ChatGPT was previously found to be reasonably capable of providing step-by-step instructions on building a desktop PC, although its lack of access to data after 2021 left it handicapped when it came to choosing the right parts for the job.

Incorporating ChatGPT in this way is lazy. Just seems that Newegg didn’t want to invest time, money and energy into a proper decision tree system in which they could have incorporated ChatGPT. Then again, this is a beta. I have tested various PC builders now with most having very poor compatibility checks. I know it isn't easy to do with options, choice and available inventory, but still, there is an entire supply chain to take into account, over and beyond product ordering. Essentially, the model needs to be trained on your own inventory, which needs to be properly categorised with upselling and cross-selling options.

ChatGPT isn’t the only ‘AI’ which can do this, there are bot services which can do exactly this.

Anyhow.

Meh. Would never trust this.
I want a mobo with decent sound chips and lekker voltage controllers.
You can take 2 virtually identical looking mobos, but they will actually be vastly different.
These nuances, ChatGPT will never be able to identify.

Uhm...you do know the model's data is only up and to 2021 correct? it does not know what prices or parts are available in 2023, it also does not have access to the internet to go and source it.

If it's built on GPT 3.5 I know why. That version of GPT only has IQ around 84, giving it basic instructions is literally like trying to give instructions to a stupid person
