Hi all

I need to set up a machine for a client that wants to send out news letters via email. He's got about 35 000 registered customers. Any suggestions on software and pc specs needed will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi XCalibre

This software is not bad (http://www.infacta.com/) but test before you buy. The direct mass mailing feature may sound cool, but without a ‘recognized’ SMTP server you may find that most emails are returned. I don’t think hardware is very important…

I'm going to use the clients website as smtp server. Will I need to inform he's ISP or will I need to get a smtp server address I can use from the ISP?

Informing the ISP is probably a good idea, not sure how well they will take a sudden jump that big in mail sending ;)

Yup... if you don't inform them they'll blacklist him... cause its their allocated IP address that could get added to a spam list.

We once allowed anonymous SMTP relaying accidently, and left port 25 open on the internet.. bad idea. didn't take long before the ISP stopped it though.
