news.saix down today?

Did anyone have problems connecting the the news server today? This morning I setup altbinz to download and I get home now and see it hasn't downloaded much.

After looking at my mrtg traffic graphs I see it didn't do anything the whole day and then at 18:00 on the dot it started downloading at 38k

Did they switch the server back on at 18:00 or something?
 
it's almost impossible to do so during the day recently...

Rather wait til 7pm and u wil notice good speeds all the way till 9am the next morning..
 
Sounds about right - I checked the logs - it kept retrying to connect all day, then at 18:00....bang....fully connected!

Damn Telkom! They give you 30GB of local traffic and you can't do F.all with it!
 
gregmcc, I can find a way to kill 30gb of local traffic.
If I can do 180 in 2 weeks, TRUST ME bru, I can do 30 in NO time ;)
 
No, I just download everything ;) haha.
Movies to watch to keep me sane when i dont see my gf.
tv series cause i collect tv series
music for my gf

trust me... easy to hit 180gb (which i have) at 400kb a sec ;)

No, it's actually been properly down quite frequently as of late. At night too.

Besides, you should still be able to connect during office hours, and cached material shouldn't be affected all that much.
 
no, he's right... it is being heavily shaped during the day... it starts promptly at 8 am and the shaping ends abruptly at 5 pm. I did 78 Gigs off that server last month, but none of it was during the day... I gave up trying after the second week of February. If you are cruising nicely over 100 kbps before 8 am... as soon as the clock strikes 8 your downloads will drop to below 5k and be continually disconnected! The server runs just fine after hours.
 
Someone please help me, I am new to this, got an openweb account 30 gig R130, capped my int with 1 movie download, seriously starting to piss me off. Want to abuse this is news thing ive heard so much about.

Here is my problem. Got the new grabit, dunno what im doing wrong?

you can't pull saix based news from openweb (I.S) and vice versa.

and good luck with trying uncached items from I.S at peak times of the day.
 
Is cybersmart blocking access to news.saix for their users?

Unbelievable..

Tried for a few hours to connect on my regular 3GB cybersmart account and the connection just kept timing out, switched to webafrica prepaid and it connected immediately

Wtf are cybersmart, telling people what they can use their 3GB for?!

Oh well - just gonna have to blow it on more expensive international bandwidth..

Have you tried squid02.cybersmart.co.za as an address ? :)

Apparently it works, I'm not on Cybersmart...
