News24 becoming unreadable

News24 is good enough to just get the basics on any story, which is why I use it; its not the best reporting but at least its relatively quickly updated if anything happens. I use an adblocker so I've never experienced any problems with adverts.

I realized after reading the comments on News24.... that its not the type of place I should get my news from.

I actually came in expecting this thread to be about the rubbish racist comments that thrive on news24.

I saw thread title an thought:
(a) user news24 can no longer post in english
(b) site news24 can no longer post in english

and figured it had to be (b). And then read it was about the adverts. The only time I visit that site is when the story simply cannot be found anywhere else. And the drivel! PD/CA rejects of note - whoever said that above.

It takes n24 at least twice as long to load as any other news site because of these ads and the comments and the other crap so I gotta agree with the OP. Finding an alternative has, however, not been that easy.

Eyewitless news is terrible.

News they report live on radio at 3pm will sometimes not even make the website until tomorrow if ever.

If it's good enough for news why not good enough for the web ?

IOL is for last weeks articles from overseas papers.

News24 is probably the best for breaking news but generally the standards of web-journalism are piss-poor.

You're wrong. Because www.timeslive.co.za is pretty cool

If I would select my newssites from what comments get posted on them, I would read nothing :P. I read the local news on nuus24 and www.praag.co.za, I prefer the latter one because it atleast has decent Afrikaans and news which does not make the Naspers publications but the comments make me cringe, lots of right-wing religious zealots who have hijacked that site.
But it generally is not much better at the other sites where it is a confrontation between left-wing PC hippies against right-wing zealots smashing bible terms around, along with the odd black racist nationalist :D. I wonder where the normal people are sometimes. ;)

I guess I'll swim upstream a bit by saying I don't mind News24 that much. Their klaxon-shrill, yellow headlines and piss-poor grammar and whatnot piss me off, but I guess I like how quickly their stuff is updated. And I don't mind the comments too much; gives you some kind of a pulse... on something or other.

Stop complaining people. News24 had to implement AffirmativeAction. They had no choice. Live with it. Who said piss-poor grammar? You write a report in Xhosa or Sotho or Zulu etc etc and see how good your grammar will be. WTF

Uhm, it's an English medium web-site. It should have only journalists who speak English fluently.

Just because standards across the country have plummeted doesn't mean journalism need stoop to the lowest common denominator.

As it is the quality of pronunciation on English radio news and ads is appalling - jewlery, milyin, bedda... the least we should expect is acceptable standard of written reports.

I said piss-poor grammar. And I'll say it again slowly. Piss. Poor. Gram. Mar. Because that's what it is. And I never said I expected them to be Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists; although their standards of writing and editing are crap, I accept what they do because I understand their model is haste to the 'printing presses' over high-end journalism, and I'm fine with that, as I said in my post.

Further, I personally wouldn't even write my name in Xhosa, Sotho or Zulu, and if I had the temerity to do so and then try to pass it off in Xhosa, Sotho or Zulu media, everyone who is a native speaker of those languages would be free to take the piss as much as they like. So naff off with that crap.
