4Mbps wasn't around when it used to run at full speed. What I'm saying is that promoting it on a popular forum such as this will result in speeds slowing down even further. A few months ago it was 15-20kB/s, now it's 10-15kB/s, it seems to be moving towards 5-10kB/s, next you'd be lucky to get 5kB/s.
IS only has a certain capacity, and as more people sign up, the only way to maintain that capacity in order for everybody to be able to connect would be to drop the speeds for everyone and possibly reducing the amount of connections per person even further. So keep promoting it, you guys are only shooting yourselves in the foot. I've been using it for almost 3 years now, and I know for a fact that I'm not talking crap when I say that uncached used to run at full speed.
By not promoting, you only leave newshost open to only a "select few", and whats the use of that to IS. Having a few people using newshost is only an advantage for those "few" who download from there and want the full speed newshost give for themselves, which is a bit selfish.
If it wasn't for the growing numbers in newshost, im sure IS would probably have shut the newshost down by now. And as you know, IS is making a lot of revenue just by selling LOCAL bandwidth, because they know the people are gonna use it on the newshost.
So instead of blaming forums like this for promoting newshost, you should actual thank all these people buying local bandwidth and letting IS still keeping newshost going.
True, with promoting it, the speeds would decrease, but look at the bigger picture, what would be better, a few people downloading for a couple of months and having them shut it down as its not cost effective, or having a lot more people download from it and having the speeds reduced a bit for uncached stuff. Having something is far better than not having it at all and having to purchase international bandwidth for your download needs.
Now THATS shooting yourself in the foot.
