If you are unfamiliar and clueless about Newsgroups and NZB files you may want to do some reading on the following sites...

Just a quick one to make sure,

If i upload to newshost, would that count towards my cap or not? Im sure it doesnt, but just want to make sure as i have been using 3g and got the adsl line installed today only.

To your local cap, yes...

In general you're only talking about a few hundred kb at most.

Be sure to register at the forum there. They'll be better suited to answer qns. ;)

The forum isnt working for me at the moment. Dont know why, will check it when i get home.

Well the speeds are @ 5kb since all this mumble jumble on myadsl since last year. One of these days it will be below 1kb/s. :(

Nonsense man. Uncached have always been between 5-15 kB/s depending on the content. Besides, the news site is the only thing that uses an ADSL to it's full potential... because it's not Telkom.

Dude, yeh right, let's see any agreeing with you. Uncached, yes uncached was going at 18-25kb/s a few months ago!

Please read the guides linked on the front page of http://newshost.za.net/ then if you're interested sign up. Once signed up there are a few more guides and a FAQ that you can go through to get a better grip on what the site is for.

The site does not and I repeat DOES NOT host any files that you can download, but only NZB files. These NZB files are just files that you use as a link to a file on the news server. Please go read the guides to get a better grip on how it works!

And full speed before that! Not too mention unlimited connections. But then that thread (yes you guys know which one) destroyed everything when it started getting out of hand.

I'm not gonna create another thread just to ask this so I'll do it here. When you download from the IS newsserver is it normal for the download to crawl when you get to the last thread of a batch I'm sitting on 98% done now and now that it's only got one more thread to finish I'm getting like 3KB/s.

Anyone had this problem? Fix?

Maybe because you caught up with the cached content and now its uncached?

Surely the fact that ISPs now advertise it as a bonus of getting an IS account can't help either?

.par and .par2 files are used to repair the download if it's corrupt.

You don't need them if it's not corrupt - which it shouldn't be if it was cached when you downloaded it.

Uncached at 4 Mbps? I don't think so, but maybe before my time. I not looking for a fight, all I'm saying is that for many months now it's been like that. Besides it's not like downloading basically anything at full speed can last in SA anyway. It was like when Telkom launched ADSL... quick to change the whole scene.

4Mbps wasn't around when it used to run at full speed. What I'm saying is that promoting it on a popular forum such as this will result in speeds slowing down even further. A few months ago it was 15-20kB/s, now it's 10-15kB/s, it seems to be moving towards 5-10kB/s, next you'd be lucky to get 5kB/s.

IS only has a certain capacity, and as more people sign up, the only way to maintain that capacity in order for everybody to be able to connect would be to drop the speeds for everyone and possibly reducing the amount of connections per person even further. So keep promoting it, you guys are only shooting yourselves in the foot. I've been using it for almost 3 years now, and I know for a fact that I'm not talking crap when I say that uncached used to run at full speed.
