can we not all contribute to this website and can this website not allow everyone to upload downloaded nzb's?

I'm not sure I understand - afaik all you need to do is register unless the system has changed.

Also wondered about that

But for example today there was about 4 files out of 7 that was under cached that wasn't cached. A lot of nuked files aswell.

Not that I'm saying it's always the uploaders fault. But what whould happen if all 1200 members were uploaders?

My 2 cents. :p

Think you need to have downloaded a certain amount of NZB AFAIK.
Guess the system has changed then - I havent used IS this month so havent uploaded any nzb's - no point.

NZB is an XML-based file format for retrieving posts from NNTP (Usenet) servers. The format was conceived by the developers of the Newzbin.com Usenet Index. NZB is effective when used with search-capable websites. These websites create NZB files out of what is needed to be downloaded. Using this concept, headers would not be downloaded hence the NZB method is quicker and more bandwidth-efficient.

Each Usenet message has a unique identifier called the "Message ID". When a some-what large file is posted to a Usenet newsgroup, it is usually divided into multiple messages (called segments or parts) each having its own Message-ID. An nzb-capable Usenet client will read the Message-ID from the NZB file, download them and decode the messages back into a binary file (usually using yEnc or Uuencode).

What's this got to do with this forum?
Me feels stupid.
Stupid runs away screaming ...

ok sometimes i dont make myself clear :)

You cannot upload anymore unless your given special clearance, so at the moment we have more leechers than uploaders which means a slow moving website

when i say downloaded nzb's i mean, when you have loaded the nzb in your grabit or whateva program you use and downloaded it

not much point uploading uncached stuff because we can get those nzb's just about anywhere

i hear your point about 1200 ppl uploading but the 5 new items added a day is not cutting it :)

stoke do you go around looking for posts in the forums lol

Exactly, I can't upload any NZB's the upgrade option does not seem to work or is not available.

I've download stuff thats not even listed on newshost that some other people may find useful.

Good point - Killa - have you raised your concerns on their forum? Might be the place to start . .

I agree 5-8 NZB is not alot. Uncached NZB really does work, then someone doesn't have to sit at slow speed for a series of 8GIG. Rather 16 people helping on 500mb each at slow speeds. And 7.5GIG at max, rather than the whole 8GIG at a snail pace.

Special clearence for every single NZB? :(

So ask them to change your rank to that of an uploader.

Dabouncer is gone on holiday, so nothing is going to be changing for the next while. If you want to become an uploader and would like to contribute, just pm admins and I'll upgrade you to an uploader. That's if you don't meets specs. There are some small issues with specs, like you have to be registered for a certain time before you can be an uploader. If you registered before this system was bought it, you will have a join date of 00-00-0000 and will never qualify for uploader status. So please just pm an admin and I'll upgrade you.

As for the nuked or double files, please also pm admin so they can be removed. No use we cache 2 different copies of the same file. I don't have time to monitor the chat area and can't look through all the comments, so please report the files.

I think I should get dabouncer to implement a report function for fakes and doubles when he gets back :D

Actually Killa, there is a point too it. For example, STALKER was uploaded and wasnt cached, so a few guys chat, or just write in chat that everyone can D/L different parts of the NZB, making the D/L process quicker by caching quicker, which in turn works out for everyone ;)

Point of uploading uncached stuff would be so that more local guys can D/L the same NZB and cache it :) , and yes they can get the NZB anywhere, but fact that its on a local site, they know that more peeps will D/L it, and cache it.

hmmm i would have just thought that if i take the 3 days to download something i really wanted it would take some guys 1 day to get the file and visa versa

so in essence you would have loads of cached stuff already and not tons of files that take as long as any other nzb

grimmy you do make sense with the uncached files, all im saying is it would be nice to have tons of cached files as opposed to tons of uncache files that might get download by certain users :)

also you guys need to get over the fact i started this thread in the wrong place

im truly sorry to have ruined your amazing day by posting in the wrong forum's wont happen again :)

ive only just gotten into this cached stuff and the speed is amazing so im kinda addicted to the speed and just want as much as i can get :)

1 question i've been wondering about is this: How big is the cache and how long on avg do files stay in there with no traffic on it?

Is the advantage of a cached file over a non-cached file that the cached file will download faster? I assume both will still use the local portion of bandwidth (assuming you are setup to split traffic or use local only)?

Cached is a LOT faster (over 5x the speed of uncached at times) - so it's not difficult to understand why peeps prefer to download cached files :).
