I'm running Vista ultimate,

I've tried both Grabit and Newsleecher on the IS news servers and it's a no show.I managed to download an mp3 album earlier this week, but the symptoms are as follows:

On both those applications I get speed spikes! Like EEEEKKKKK!!! and then there's nothing, then EEEEEEKKKKK!!! and then there's nothing.

The speed rockets to 120Kb/s and then to nothing and to 50kb/s and to nothing.

I've got a 512 line, it worked fine on XP, so why not on Vista?
Does anyone know of a fix or have an idea?

Thanks friends ;) :p

LOL! Thanks bwananizer, I just don't have the storage space man, I'm stuck with one hdd and one partition, the result of a hasty install, now I've got all the apps and stuff! :D

Please people, give me some google search terms or something ;)

Who is your ISP and what newsserver are you using?

Who is your ISP?

Hey bro, I'm not sure really, I'm sharing an IS account with a friend, I don't know to be honest.

Edit: I'm using news.is.co.za and news.isdsl.net, like I did on Xp

Ai Tera, los Vista tot na Kersfees... :D

Well if you're using the IS news server then you're getting fairly typical downloads by the sound of it - especially for content not cached locally (in SA).

IOW - it might not be the fault of vista.

But these spikes are definitely not normal, I've got a friend playing on my SAIX account now, but I think Avast may be the culprit here, I'll have to confirm it later.

Maybe the NNTP scanning interfered with it?

I dont have Avast and I see those spikes all the time on content that hasnt been downloaded recently by someone else.

You also need to make sure that if you are using IS's news server that you're not making more than 4 or 5 (it fluctuates) concurrent connections.

You just gotta give me the credit man! Where have you found a guy that starts a thread to a problem and manages to fix it himself? :p ;)

LOL! ROFL!!

Avast! was the problem bwananizer and kiepie, it seems because it scans the NNTP connections it messes things around.

Hopefully this thread will be of some help to some guest or member out there someday ;)

It works! Beautifully!!
