I should have said some of the best players in Europe i.e. Drogba, Eto', Makelele, Essien, Diara etc...the rest of the world notably S. America provide the rest...
Anyway, the point was we as South Africa have not produced a single player of such quality...

yeah some.. and you left out the Toure's.. :)

Hey boys...come over to the rugby side, the water is nice and warm here :D

I might consider your offer if the Springboks win the WC! Problem is I don't understand rugby very well despite having watched on tv time and time again...Sometimes they count in 3's 5's 7's why can't they award one goal per strike like soccer...The referee points in the wrong direction for a penalty, a hoot goes and a then a gong and maybe a final whistle.blows..finally...it's all very dissimillar to soccer...eish

We almost did not qualify for ANC(scraped through as 2nd best placed loosers), we didn't qualify for champions league, (Sundowns my team, have found it tough in the minor Confederation cup) Amaglug-glug are out of Beijing2008(they were hammered at home as well), top scorer in the league always comes from Zambia or somewhere else...Niang, Mbesuma, Katongo, there's basically nothing going right for us at the moment....

The best players in Europe come from Africa, but none of those come from SA!!!BTW, Mcarthy is not one of those top players!!!

Aggh, come on... Ronaldo and Torres... for a start I chuck in the heap then we look at Van Persie. What about the Italians I did not even try them.

SA are not delivering world class players. Africa produce some world class players and Europe stock world class players.
African players will not become world class if it was not for europan money is it not true?

Everyone knows that Europe is where the money is!!! Europe attracts the best players from Africa. If it wasn't for the money, all that talent would stay right here at home.
The English premiership for example does not accept foreign players that have not proven themselves whilst playing for their home countries!!! To play in the premiership, you need to have represented your country in 75% of the matches!!!
They are not interested in developing foreign players. They want talent that is ready to make them money.
Europe only makes those african players famous throughout the world which is not to say they made them world class. They are born that way:D

But that does not explain the reduction in the number of English players every season, especially in the big clubs? Are they not good enough or are they too expensive?

I think it's a fundamental problem of quality. But why aren't there good players from England? Someone has to do something. It's not normal that a kid coming from South Africa or Brazil is better than those here. It's what I'm trying to do with the academy at Arsenal... and it's that area that Brooking has analysed fairly and objectively: he says let's bring up some English kids who are as good as those who come from abroad. Those young English players will be of a good enough quality as soon as I go and see the French under-17s and I say to myself, no I'm not going to take that player there, because I have an English boy who is under 17 and as good as him. But one of the beautiful things in sport is being able to say: 'Why shouldn't a kid who is passionate and talented - and born in Zimbabwe - have the chance to play with the best footballers in the world?' It would be an injustice.

We got a mention from the greatest manager to set foot in England ;)

well i would say one of the greatest not the greatest

do arsenal have any english players at all in the prem leauge who play alot?

only hoyte and walcott, lots in the reserves and the youth team

I've been both a soccer player and a fan all my life and I support any sport when our country is playing.

But over the years, I have lost faith in or bafambla-bafambla squad.
Every time they will tell u that we r building a team blah blah.

I watched the Saturday u23 when they were walloped by the Ghanians 3-1 and of course the humiliating BB 3-1 loss to Zambia.

I have concluded that our country players just do not have what it takes to compete - I mean we have the best infrastructures in the continent but we get beaten by the likes of Zambia, which are one of the poorest countries in the world.

Did u see those Ghanians u23 boys (men). they just out-paces the SA team like pop corns in hot fire.

I think it boils down to the way we grew up. We are privileged to be South African and I guess we don't work hard enough to earn the place.

I also believe even th genetically modified and unhealthy/unnatural foods we eat. I mean those Ghanian boys were twice the size of e.g Leboganh Mokoena.

What do you expect? You've said it all. Folks in Ghana still eat organic food. :)

Nothing wrong with our food. I'd rather eat GM crops than chemically fertilized food. People are paranoid over GM foods because they don't understand it. much like Nuclear power.

our Rugby players seem to be strong enough.

anyway, back to topic

I think the problem with our attitude. To win you must be fit and the team isn't even fit. lack of fitness is down to a lack of hard work.

Comes down to the current climate of entitlement. Things come to those who work the hardest, not to those who "deserve" it.

Whoever does their performance enhancing drugs for them needs to get booted (pun intended) from the team.

We just dont have the talent and phyiscal attributes that the other west african countries have. Those guys are naturally well built , with skill and strength. No matter how much money we pump in , it aint gonna do ****.
