Night Driving Without Headlights

I only remember my lights at night when it's dark. So in a well lit I forget. It's not intentional, just don't think about it in a well lit area.

Nobody does it intentional. It remains a bad excuse for not being alert and for not considering the lives of others. Perhaps, once you have killed someone, you will remember to ensure that your vehicle is visible to others. There are scores of others who do as you are doing and therein lies the problem.

A change of heart and a change of attitude is what is needed. Focus on your driving and road safety. You will only forget this when your mind is elsewhere. Take a good read of the Road Traffic Act and see where you are positioned.

I might add that the majority of the errant drivers are driving neat cars, not rust buckets.

I think you missed the part where I said we'll area. I know it's difficult to read, but please try.

If I turn a corner and it's dark lights go on.

I can read. Doing it in a well lit area is still no excuse and you therefore admit to break the law and also justify your bad driving by blaming the environment. Pay attention to your driving habits instead.

Need to hand in your license and redo it from scratch, because you do not have sufficient skills to keep it at the moment. Or you can just train yourself, its close to sunset, put lights on before starting the engine (if parked) or just put lights on while driving because the sun is setting..

I have only once in my life forgotten to put on the lights on along very well Lynnwood road when I left the university one night..

Perhaps you don't see it because you are so used to it happening? It is glaringly obvious all over the Peninsula, be it the N1, N2 or N7, CBD, Sea Point, Simonstown, Bellville, Durbanville, TableView......

I think that people here just are not alert enough to even notice. It is part of the laid-back culture. Not even SAPS do notice it as they waive those vehicles through at road blocks.

The same thing happens in other places, but there it is rare. I've seen in in Pretoria CBD, for instance, but then it was a Cape Town vehicle, of course............

If only people would open their eyes and see.

I am alert and I will notice this kind of thing. It does not happen as often as you say...

Where is Cape Town do you stay, because I've never experienced it as bad as you say it is? Every now and then I see an old wreck with no lights, or a car with one headlight bulb blown... but 30 cars per hour?
+1 as I'm also in Cape Town.

I drive mostly around the Southern Suburbs (Rondebosch East, Kenilworth, Claremont) and drive to Cape Town CBD about 3 or 4 times a week. I don't see what you speak of as frequently as you claim, perhaps because I frequent different areas to you. And take note, I am a stickler for lights being on, brights being off, and indicating when turning or changing lanes! :p

I hate it when people don't switch the brights off until they pass you. Makes me bedinges

Well I've made the conscious decision now that if I come up behind a car with their rear fog lights on , especially those new bloody Figo's with one on each side, then I will promptly put my brights on and leave them on.

If I'm forced to stare into your bright rear facing lights, then you can deal with my brights...or get out of the way so I don't need to see them which happens more often than not.

I'm sick of being the courteous one that just sucks it all up.

I do the same, bloody idiots.
