Hello all

We recently hired, then fired, a night nanny who had a 2 day stint with my newborn twins. So now I'm in the market for a properly qualified night nurse (preferably ex-NICU) who can help at night. Experience with multiples is a must.

I've tried a few agencies but there doesn't seem to be anyone available who fits the profile.

This might be a long-shot but anyone been in the same boat and know of anyone who can assist? I am in the Bryanston area - looking for a 3 month contract.

Thanks!

I know of a lady in CPT who specialises in twins (she's on her third set now) but she is about to start with a fourth set.

I know that that is unhelpful but at least you know such a person exists.

What’s your issue? Have you had multiples before? In fact don’t bother answering if you’re on a witch hunt.
Ignore such responses.

I can only assume they were prem and from what I saw with friends that is a hair raising experience.
Focus on youselves and the children first. You will probably find there is no energy left for the inconsiderates...

Yeah but had health issues at birth (emergency C section) and then 33 days NICU. Dealing with a wife that gets around 3 hours sleep a day and trying to make her life more tolerable during this period. They’re still not 100% and they fuss the entire night in pain (not colic). So... fun.

Do they sometimes forget to breathe? Friend's 1 junior was born at 24 weeks. Weight 950g. Was in NICU for 3 months. Then home. He has a monitor that attached to nappy and a monitor mat to sleep on. He sometimes forgot to breathe. They were told it would happen hench the monitors.

If wife is breast feeding. She must avoid garlic, spicy stuff, acidic foods like tomatoes/paste and fart foods(onion, cabbage, beans etc) it upsets their tummies. For at least 6 months, then intro in minute quantities.
If they are bottle fed then she can eat whatever.

On the monitors as well (advised by NICU). They had a few apnea episodes in NICU but nothing since. Old paed didn’t diagnose their acid reflux and missed some other key things. Moved Paeds to someone really great. Proper diagnosis now and onto new formula and medication to help reflux. It’s a 24/7 mission with these two!

Wife is bottle feeding - madness to breast feed with two. Not enough milk to go around!

Night nurses work in rotation at hospital, one week on one week off. So you might have better luck finding 2 or 3 who would like to work some "overtime" on their off week. From an agency it's going to be extremely hard to find a perm placement for 3 months. They could help you on a week to week bases.

My twins turned 9 this past Saturday. Man, do I know what you going through :D

Turns out my wife hadn’t phoned the NICU... so will definitely be doing that.

Congrats on the birthdays! I’m aiming to get to 3 months - it’s a loooong 5 weeks away

Lol, you'll get there I promise you. Time flies by so quickly. They will bring in a millions times more pleasure than the little crap and sleepless nights they causing you now :) I have no idea how my wife made it, but she got them to 9. She says now the trick is to get them to drink at the same time. If one is still sleeping when one awakes for a meal, wake the other one and feed both.

Be strong, you will both make it, even if it doesn't feel like it now :p

Thanks bud! We’re lucky that they are more or less on the same schedule and are feeding every 4 hours. Small wins!

I have no clue on how to help but all the best to your wife, your twins and yourself! :)

Have you contacted SAMBA (South African Multiple Birth Association)? They may be able to recommend an agency, or at least point you in the right direction.
Also, check out FB pages for SA Multiples. Often night nurses just work 3 months a time for one family, so you may find a family 'advertising' their nurse/nanny.
Best of luck
