Every parent will understand.

In this dream I thought we were walking along on a sidewalk, our little one running a little ahead of us.

All of a sudden a van (like the america UPS vans) drove past, the door opened and somebody scooped the little one up. :(

After that I could not sleep anymore :(

I sincerely hope that this does not happen....

I used to have a similar nightmare, one of the kids would suddenly run across traffic on a multi lane highway, or walk along the edge of a building while I'm on the ground powerless to stop them. Used to wake in a cold sweat and no further sleep.

Realised it was about subconsciously feeling helpless over their wellbeing (I divorced their mom) but hated it so much I decided to change the dream myself. So I'd go back to sleep, continue the nightmare and force myself to dream a different outcome. Think it's called lucid dreaming or something.

Took a while but I eventually beat the nightmare and it went away. Haven't had a recurrence of the dream in many years now.

Scary as hell.
I wish this never ever really happens to any child / parent

My wife regularly has these sorts of dreams. I'm mostly dreamless. She is frequently upset when she wakes because of some dream or other involving the kids or family.

Our kids tend to hold our hands when we walk around and never go far. When the wife is alone, with the running 3yr old and the 7 month one in a pram, she uses a harness. It's not something I'm entirely happy about and I know some folks have fits saying a child is not a dog BUT I don't care, its for his safety and the wife cannot leave the one to go after the other.

love those harnesses and recommend them to everybody with small children.

On another note, I used to wake up furious with my husband, snappy and glaring at him throughout the day. Late afternoon I'd realise what was annoying me about him had been a dream.

That is your brain for you. Funny how the human mind works. After a long day at work, you are tired. You get ready for bed and as your head hits the pillow, your mind says. What if something bad happens to your loved ones. Then you just lie there. You cannot unthink it. It bothers you and your mind is all over the place. You are now really upset that you thought it and you can't fall asleep.

so the harnesses are a popular item? my little one is 3 today and she can be difficult at times. my wife wants the harness.

If you need it, get it, better safe than sorry. But a person should be able to handle a single child.

My nightmares generally involve home invasions and sick bastards getting at my 7yo.

I have freakouts about her when she is out alone or with the kids, likely all the death in my life/family recently.
Can't bear it when they are out of my site.

Glad I'm not the only parent getting the heebie-jeebies...

Craziest I had was my daughter waking up crying from nightmares about "robbers in the house" followed by me going to bed and having nightmares about robbers in the house.

Worst nightmare for me is that I forget my daughter in the car.
When I first started dropping her off at daycare I used to check the car several times during the day.

Once I drove all the way to work with her sleeping in the back.
Now I have all these checks I do to make sure I know who is in the car
