Nikon D40x or D40? Please help with a few quick opinions.

:D

I'm sure I'll love it. I just hate spending so much money on toys. :(
Then dont - buy a cleap dslr now and when you've almost got enough for the one you want sell it to make up the difference. ;)

The camera you have today is always going to take better photos than the one you're only thinking about getting tomorrow.

The thing is - I kinda do have the money, but it is a lot for a camera. I don't want to buy something when I know that if I invest the first time around, that I'll have a better camera for a little more.

So the 450D is going to take better photos than the 40D? :D

I'm not worried about the lens - in my case its the sensor that had dust on it that the auto sensor cleaner seemed reluctant to dislodge.

Oops, I actually meant the sensor! I just used the blower on the sensor... Wet cleansing the sensor should only be necessary if there is something seriously stuck or smeared, I think.

You'll prolly sukkel to see the difference between them under normal circumstances - it's the high end pricey stuff in the 40d that makes it nicer to use :D

If you actually own it instead of thinking about the day that you'll own the 40D? Of course.

I was actually thinking along the lines of a second hand 350/400 that you could keep as a backup or flog after you get the 40D. Speaking from experience having a second camera is a bonus. :)

I may have to get a backup yeah but that's another expense I cannot afford ATM :)

Technically getting a second hand one now (to later sell or keep) wouldnt actually be an additional expense - it would be your initial expense :)

If you want to be a photographer sooner or later you're going to have to buy a camera so you can start making plenty mistakes (unless you go the film route where you want to learn by not making mistakes). :D
That is a very interesting looking gadget!
I so want one of those right now! :)

Haha. Well ATM, that is true. I was thinking ahead as if I already have one :)

They could be, I phoned the Nikon shop today and they want R6500 for the D60 + kit

Those guys are selling it for R5999 :)

foto discount world is not a grey dealer, they are foto digital world in pta and are an authorized nikon dealer (look on the nikon website for dealers and they are listed). i bought my camera from them and registered it with nikon without any problems.
when i was looking for a price on my d60 i got quotes from R5999 to R8500 (yes, for the same camera), shows you how much the mark up is with some of these places. it is ridiculous with how some of these places do the mark ups, would love to know how much the equipment actually costs them to purchase for their own shop.

Did you check the kit lens in the various offers? Nikon locally seems to have dumbed down the D60 kit by removing the VR lens to make the price more attractive. The R8500 price may have included the VR lens.

Also, I'd guess that the difference in price is more the fault of the distributor than the store. There won't be such a huge difference in price if all the stores are buying at the same price.
