Nintendo Wii U worries deepen

The new prices of their consoles is also somewhat prohibitive to folk like me who would upgrade to their next gen.

I agree that the original price was their biggest problem, but it is also the only console that offers full backwards compatibility so you can use any of your old games and hardware on it. You can also play most games up to 5 players where most other consoles can only allow up to 4 players at a time.

They have however done a lot to improve their price, but there is probably still some room for them to lower it further. Just the fact that there were massive queues when ToysRUs were selling the consoles for cheap proves to me that there is demand for the console, but that the price isn't right.
 
Have to be honest, after all this news about Wii U sales, i'm really surprised to see how many people actually love this console, and has really tempted me into getting one, more for the sake of nostalgia I guess, I remember looking at the Wii U last year acually and was quite impressed, I do think the screen on the controller is a waste, and that is something they could take out to save on alot of extra costs.

I absolutely love my console and I love that additional screen on the controller. You won't really understand how awesome it is until you've played a 1v1 game against somebody and each player plays on his own screen (no screen sharing). The controller is also the reason 5-player multi-player is possible on one console. Also you can sit facing the wall chilling on the couch while the other player sits in front of the TV no issues. Lots of games also support tv-less play, meaning that you don't even have to switch on the TV to play the games. You just switch on the console and you play on the controller.

OK I take that back then, that does sound pretty neat, I guess from what I can see, is it all boils down to the hardware and the possibility of it not being able to now keep up with the current gen, so I guess porting games to the Wii would mean having to make quite a few adjustments because of the bit of hardware difference and now also that current gen is more pc like.

Also I only ever owned a Ps1, and Wii just seems more attractive to me because of the fun little games where you can sit back and chill, I have a pc for proper AAA titles and will never see the point in a PS4, nintendo just has some really unique titles, and hardly do I see those titles getting bad ratings.
 
I kind of think they misaimed with the controller design on the Wii U; that and they've been far too slow developing killer titles. So far there's only a small number I'd buy. Also the price is prohibitive; $100 off would be a much more attractive option.

Yeah, My son plays his games while we chat and watch whatever we want on TV... it is nifty!
 
Love the controller screen just wish it had better resolution, brightness and viewing angles. But when I get into a game I don't notice those things so maybe its just the spec whore in me complaining.

Love the Wii-U I really do it just needs more games. Dammit can't wait for Mario Kart, Smash Bros and the new Zelda once these are released no one will regret that they bought a Wii-U
 
I've had a NES, a SNES, an N64, a Game Cube and a Wii, but I'm done with Nintendo and never even considered a Wii U.

We'll stick with the handheld consoles in our house (my kids have 3DS xl for pokemon, but we made the jump to X box last year and that's probably how we'll go in the future.

The games that you really want to play on the Wii-U are specifically designed for it. The 3rd party games are knock-off versions of the games available on other platforms and will only disappoint you. Rather spend your money on the first-party Nintendo Wii games and Wii-U games. You should be able to get the Wii games for good prices now. I also buy lots of games second hand because there is no second hand restrictions on the Wii-U.

Get Super Mario 3D World and Rayman Legends ;) Also, have you played Zombi-U?

What made you abandon Nintendo hardware? Lack of 3rd party support?

Got SM3D World and Rayman they are both great. Sold my copy of Zombi-U couldn't get into it it was just too damm difficult and I didn't like the controls.

What does the current console retail for? It was around R4,500 not too long ago.

Zombie U did look good from what I saw.

But when ever I think of an AAA title it just never seems suited for the Wii, I just personally feel sometimes that games like Assassins creed just aren't meant for the Wii and I could not picture myself play that on a Wii tbh, not that I game on console but just saying, when I think of Wii, all I think is "arcade" gaming in a way, and arcade games are really fun every now and then, not for serious games, but good to play for an hour or so everyday or once in awhile.

Around 4k now for the premium edition, but you can probably get the basic for 2.5 new. I know of a guy who sold his premium for 2k not long ago, so look out for bargain second hand deals.
