Got my iPhone 5 on the 28 Dec and everything was not to bad until last week. I have two issues with the phone/CellC.

1) The data connection to enable all the push notifications and browsing hardly ever works. I noticed last week, after being back at work that my Whatsapp messages came through very late or did not go through. After extensive testing and time calling the help centre, nothing has helped. No connection to data services even though I have full signal and the 3G sign on the phone. Checked, and rechecked my APN settings and they are set to "internet" as per call centre. Weirdest thing is that when I am calling 140, I can browse the internet, the minute I disconnect, no more internet. What is the point of having a 500MB data bundle if you cannot use it.

2) The wifi connection works on and off. My Speedtest results indicate good connection, 8Mbps download and 1Mbps upload on my 10Mbps ADSL line (always). But when I stream a video in HD or SD, they run for a 1 minute and then buffer and do not play any further. Read up extensively and this seems to be an IOS 6.02 update issue on some iPhones. Can anyone else confirm (CellC or other members).

Will PM CellC rep now to assist.

Hi,

I had similar issues, and my connection seems to have come right in the last day or so on my iPad and my phone. This is in the Cape Town - kenilworth area mainly.

But - I had a few of up and down signal from about the 7th to the 12th and my iPad was "stuck" on EDGE.

Would be interested to know the outcome of this one.... Maybe it's related? Or similar?

CellC say they have been doing upgrades to the network in the area, but if your data is down from 8am till 3pm each day and the call centre does not know this, think it might be an excuse. Also, doing some tests today, got internet via forcing EDGE on the phone, when I set it to 3G no connection (even will full signal strength). At home (disabling wifi) seems to be ok for the last two days.

Will keep this post current as this evolves. Also, found out today, that if I use "Internet" as an APN, my personal hotspot settings disappear, when set back to apple.cellc.za or resetting network settings my personal hotspot comes back.

any idea what is happening with Cell C 3G coverage in muizenberg.
im on prepaid and when i moved here 8 months ago the speeds and connectivity were too bad.But since October its just gone from bad to worse. From what started out as just a day or 2 of connectivity being down( i thought) to now being virtually non-existent.last speed reading was 2kbps from a 21mbps dongle?
it works from time to time but just for about an hour or so then its gone again.
so bad now that i have to use a local connection called skyrove just to add to this thread.
i originally thought it was just my connection maybe but i get a great connection and speed in tokai and constantia.so it obviously the area then.

whats the story Cell C?

I'm seeing the same thing - I get a minute or so of signal after turning the handset on, and then nothing. It drops to Edge and stays there but there's no connection (I can't browse or download), and all incoming calls go straight to voice mail. When I phone someone I can hear them but they can't hear me. I can reset it by toggling airplane mode, which gets me another minute or so of access before it dies. Very very very annoying*. I ported to CellC from Virgin a few days ago - it would be hell to go through another 3 months of this before I can port to another network. My Vodacom HSDPA modem works fine (which is how I'm posting this). I'm in Table View.

* Extremely annoying that my R10000 iPhone 5 is basically useless.

I have a iPad on Vodacom and since the iOS6 update, data drops alot and wifi does not work at all!

So I bought a Galaxy Tab and all hunky dowry.....

iPad & iPhones have big problems with data, try use a Vodacom or MTN sim in your iPhone and see if you have the same problems. 10 to 1 you will.....

Had CellC come out to our office. 3G was perfect for the rest of the day. Yesterday could not connect at all on any towers. Turned iPhone off and then on, Internet came back. Starting to think I have issues on my iPhone or CellC settings.

Same issues here with my iPhone 4s. It shows that I have 3G and full signal, however when I try to browse the internet or go onto twitter/facebook/youtube from my phone they all just timeout. If I manually switch my phone to EDGE I'm able to browse those sites. I was on MTN with the same iPhone 4s sitting in the same office before porting to CellC and I never experienced this issue or similar issues. I share an office with 5 other people who sit within a meter of me and they are on MTN and Vodacom and they do not have any issues of the sort. 3 of them have iPhone's.

Experiencing similar problems to those described above. Please keep this thread updated as I think many Cell C Iphone 5 users are going through the same issues and who knows any solutions talked about could help someone.

I have lost all hope in CellC and have 23 months left on contract. I am phoning network support everyday, no answer, sending emails, no reply. Posting to CellC rep who says somebody will contact me, but nobody has. Issue is really only at the office where my iPhone becomes the equivalent of a Nokia 3110.

What connection??? Go to your command prompt and ping google.co.za or even cellc.co.za. Sooooo many dropped packets. It actually started on Monday afternoon (28th of Jan), but yesterday it reached its climax. I hope I will be able to post this post. We all have to agree that Cell sucks, but then again I guess for cheap you have to expect below standard service.

I have the same issue reported here. I have full Cell C signal with 3G on my iPhone 5. When in certain areas such as Melrose Arch, I am unable to load any internet sites. When i make a phone call, i start to hear all my messages, emails etc combing though (i.e. internet works during a phone call) I have been told by the Cell C shop that my phone could be faulty and by Cell C customer support that there could be a network issue with no "throughput" in this area even though it is showing full signal. Has anyone managed to fix this issue or can offer some advice?

Just thought I'd share that I am also having 3G connection issues in the Scottburgh (KZN) area. My connectivity fluctuates, I will have full 3G on my iPhone 5, but can't even load a web page in Safari. Other times it would run perfectly fine. This happens at various times throughout the day at random times.

Has anyone had any real feedback from Cell C?
