No flowers, please

Don't think anyone should be allowed to put crosses or symbols up. For one, they are a total buzz kill having to see death everywhere, if I want to see death I go to a cemetary

And this what our department of transport consider a priority? It baffles the mind. I dont have an issue with the message nor the alternative they are suggesting, but the fact that this has somehow become an issue for the roads agency to address, whilst I consider replacing my suspension due to pot-hole jarring on a daily basis just really pisses on my battery!

It proves one thing...

that they have lots of time and energy to spend on attacking the liberties of the general public, their subjects so to speak.

One wonders how they intend to enforce this?
Let us see:

They see a cross.
They look up who died there.
They pick up a phone and harass friends and next-of-kin until they find the "criminal".

no, the cop just stops his patrol car next to the road and removes the offending material. I also think they have become a bit of a distraction. The cops remove illegal advertising / sign boards. This is just one more thing for them to remove. Seriously people, I am sorry you loved one died in a car accident, but obsessing over the exact spot of their death is only morbid. Planting a tree is a better idea, kind of a living memorial. A new life for the one taken.

I kinda like the idea of planting a tree. There is this memorial spot when you drive from lanseria to Harties, where the people put up this huge poster of the person that died, numerous times I have almost driven into a tree due to a fright of this huge face looming from the bushes

Instead of doing what is probably considered the core of his job description i.e. enforce traffic laws. I wish they'd sort out the bigger problems first and then worry about the minor ones last

well, he can only do that other stuff if he is ACTUALLY trained to do that. IMO most of the traffic cops these days are only trained to do one thing... man a radar trap (and then not very well). Most of these guys would not know what a moving violation was if it hit them over the head.... not least I have seen many of them perform moving violations themselves (crossing white lines, exceeding the speed limit, running robots and stop streets). I think the JMPD just takes the taxi drivers who have caused the least number of accidents in a year (<100) and promote them to Traffic cops. Don't even mention Ekurhuleni Traffic cops!

I don't think these crosses are a distraction, if anything they're a reminder
that people DO die in car accidents, which is a good thing. As for planting trees, that is one thing mourners can do, however it should not be
anyone let alone the government to tell them what to do. IMHO
the bigger issues are taxis and these people who beg or sell stuff/newspapers
at intersections plus these studid newspaper headline ads (especially tabloid but not only) - they are a far bigger distraction. The government is just
being it's usual Communist self.

Point came up on Cape Talk last night. They're a reminder of just how bad these people are at keeping our roads safe. So they need to be removed.

Soft target got softer. Dead people! Toss the book at them!
