No Huawei smartphones will receive future Android updates from Google - Report

Older Huawei smartphones and other devices will no longer receive official Android and Google updates, according to a report from The Washington Post.

The publication has confirmed that the temporary license, which allowed for certain exceptions to a ban on US companies dealing with Huawei, expired on 13 August 2020.

US President Donald Trump originally issued an order which barred software and hardware makers in the country from conducting business with certain Chinese companies back in May 2019.
 
Harmony should be around the corner.

A little competition to Android and iOS is welcomed. Besides, if Huawei does with software what they do with hardware, we are in for a treat.
 
I hate Trump. Due for a phone upgrade in two weeks. Did a big comparison of all the apps I use on my current Huawei phone and what is available in their app gallery and about half my apps that I use regularly are not available and require side loading or big workarounds. Just not gonna work for me. So switching to a new cellphone brand shortly. Really unfair what the US is doing to this company.

They just need to work on their phones glass strength then they will be good. There are 4 Waawee's in our household and only my elderly mothers Y9 doesn't have broken glass because it is in her handbag 90% of the time. My daughters are constantly replacing glass on these things.
 
Bloody Trump idiot!!!

Now I have to go and get another phone.

Samsung, here I come.

Odd. Have never broken the glass on a huawei. Had a p8 lite, p10 lite, p20 lite, p30 lite and p30 pro. Did lots of screen replacements on the samsungs I had before those though.

(oh except once I broke the glass covering the cameras on the 30lite.)

Oh, that is easy. You can direct your complaints to Corning. They supply the glass :)

I big problem in SA is lack of brands. Go into any cell store and what is most prominent? Samdung, iPhones or Hauwei's

Why odd? Just because you have never broken a glass? I remember about 3 years ago deliberatly trying to break my Motorola G3's glass because I was in a stupid rage. It was thrown out of a car at 80 km/h then retrived and thrown against a wall and as it bounced back I kicked it against the wall again. Picked it up expecting a trashed phone, it was undamaged except for a scratched corner. 2 weeks later I dropped that phone from about 2 metres onto a tiled floor and it was fine. then accidently I dropped a 17mm socket on it and the screen cracked.

My eldest daughter has a P20 Lite and her Staffie jumped up onto her bed and stood on the phone and the screen cracked.

No, odd that people find that huawei glass breaks more easily, when as I mentioned I have broken several samsungs and not a single huawei.

Go see a shrink.

Never broke a phone screen in 25 years of owning a mobile( Nokia, HTC, Huawei)

YMMV.
