Last month I was capped and could only surf local sites.

Get home today and can still only surf local sites. I noticed my router IP was 165.146.180.x

After a router reboot I got 41.x.x.x and all is fine again.

Anyone else have these issues - should you always reboot your router after month end?

If you are capped at month end and are on a local only connection, you MUST reboot to enable a blended connection again. The reason for this is the ICASA ruling that came into force on Nov 1 2007 indicating that a provider is not allowed to disconnect sessions. If an ISP wishes to disconnect a user (other than the reason of exceeding/reaching some sort of usage limit) then they must provide the user with 7 days notice.

You need to thank the people who campaigned solidly against disconnects for this. They did not want an ISP to disconnect their ADSL sessions so you must do it yourself.

That's quite a weird problem. Usually, if your system can't get an IP address via DHCP, it assigns 165.254.*.* but in this case that doesn't apply (hence you requiring to restart).

The fact that your -router's- IP address was assigned that allocation also dismisses that argument.

Has this happened before? Maybe it was a fluke with them restarting your connection...
 
Having the same problem, i will reboot router now!

That IP range is SAIX's local only IP range.

Umm

If your system cant get a ip via DHCP its 169.x.x.x not 165

Thanks - didn't know that. Guess I'll have to do a reboot every month :(

Just out of interest you must have reset my router when I was capped - I didn't get 7 days notice :)

Can't you just automatically reset all capped account routers?

I guess the reason TI can reset the router when reaching your cap limit is the highlighted comment by bonobo_slr above.

I do not think it is a major problem to reset your router to convert back to blended. However when the ISP unilaterally resets your router you encounter the situation that I did during July that you are 90% complete downloading a large file (just over 1 gig in my case) and you get allocated a new IP address with the result you must start again from scratch. However I guess until international bandwidth becomes more affordable it seems we are stuck with this situation.
