No iPhone for SA

I don't know why people want an iPhone anyway. Apple's treatment of it's iPhone customers is pathetic.

Do you know that if you open the box and your iPhone is defective it will not be replaced? They send it away to Apple for repairs.

I'm glad they can't get an exclusive distribution deal in S.A. Apple needs a lesson in humility, or maybe just Steve Jobs.

Whatever, Apple blows.

Have you ever used anything Apple ?

If not pls don't run it down. I have had various Apple items and damn those things are amazing. I wouldn't mind having an Iphone. Thruth is.. looks like it won't happen

Don't worry guys, after all Apple is less evil than Microsoft right? Everything just works remember?

Pfft, at least M$ attempts to make their products available worldwide, Apple just flat out refuses to do business with you, and if you're a developing country then forget about it. Now that's greed and arrogance for you right there! No doubt they have some nice products, but this policy of selecting which countries to do business with is quite irritating.

Awesome - so that means there is finally a local Xbox360 live!

So what if Apple is selective with their markets - they're a growing company ;)

Irrespective, I don't get why you have so much of praise for Apple? Sure they have great products, but if they treat you like this then why? I certainly wasn't praising MS, I was criticising Apple.

Since when is a company obliged to do business with every single country in the world?

Possible reason why no iPhone for SA.

I was under the impression that the operators would need to pay a monthly "royalty" (couple USD) to Apple for each active device on the respective network. I can only assume that MTN, CellC and Vodacom could not come to an agreement with Apple.

Personally if I was a operator in this country I would use the iPhone to attract high ARPU customers to my network by insisting that I can offer the device.

Any other views on this?

They're not, but then it doesn't make sense to praise a company who refuses your money either.

We get Apple products here, just not this one (leaving aside the issue of Core's uselessness).

From my point of view the products of Apple's I do have are worthy of praise.

Regardless, it seems overboard to put this down to arrogance on Apple's part.

I could see that as being part of it but for me it's more likely to be that Apple doesnt have an official presence in SA. I'd expect a country like Auz to get the phone long before we do.

Treat me like what? I've always had great service from Apple.

As useless as Core is with their pricing, what harm is there in letting them distribute it and provide support for it themselves? There's no doubt that this would sell like hot cakes locally.

Also, there's a difference between having praise for a product and having praise for the company. If I praise the Xbox, that doesn't mean that I have to like MS.

Like they don't want your money? Great service, then perhaps you could convince them to send over an iPhone for you ;)

Hey, I'm all for the odd Apple-bash;);) (Leopard firewall anyone??) but its kinda off topic in thread no?

Personally I'm still keen on importing an iPhone, I know what to expect of it, I know its a cruddy phone by todays standards - my k-jam has loads more functionality for example but my k-jam also has the shoddiest build quality I have ever experienced in a mobile device and I have owned a Samsung phone!

The paint is chipping left right and centre, both stylii are lost because the silo fails to grip them after about 3 months, the camera lens in not recessed and its scratched to the point of unuseability ...very disappointing all in all so despite the richness of the feature set and the plethora of 3rd party software available I am still looking for something different.

I have seen an iPhone in person so to speak and its built beautifully, all of the reports of flush bevels and elegant curves are truth - there is not one place that I could find where lint and gunk could get stuck and build up over time.
So I know after having fondled one that iPhone will address all of these issues that bug me about the k-jam whilst also providing a nifty new interface to tinker about with and an active hacking community which will also provide hours of fun!

I'm not a fanboy and the novelty will last 6 months tops then I'll probably revert back my trusty RAZR but thats ok, I know what I'm buying and why.

Apple are control freaks and like to market their products as a whole experience. Needless to say letting Core handle this for the iPhone would be a PR disaster for Apple. Core is currently a PR disaster for Apple.

Sure, but my praise extends to Apple as well as I have never had anything but good service from them.

To each his own.

The main problem is that it will have to be unlocked. Apple is fanatical about this! In the US they won’t really sell any iPhone for cash – the main reason: to track sales by CC details – only 2 per customer. They want their money from the operator… Unlocked phones mean no ‘commission’.

pricing, support, sales . . . . something like the iPhone would be way out of their league in terms of sales and support.

Getting an iphone is simple - too bad I'm a crackberry addict :D

Im sure they all want the phone!! Its an easy 1 mill contracts with iPhone alone, BUT if Apple does not want to supply the phone then what???

Im not sure what happens behind close doors but Im sure all the SPs have given their best shot to try to get the phone.

Brandson hasnt won the iPhone in any of the countries Virgins in....

surely if there was any truth in that it would've been all over the internet.

MS is going to rule the world cause nobs like Apple keep cocking up their oppertunities where MS see a niche at coin it. I mean come on, who releases "the next best thing" in the cell phone industry then cripple it with 3 year old moronic concepts.
Got me an HTC, does everthing and more that the Apple does... PLUS!!! I can change the battery, and upgrade the memory, send email attatchments, write my own apps, plus a gabillion other things Apple dont think their consumers have the brain for. And the biggest bonus: I ACTUALLY HAVE ONE!!! Whats the point of raving about how amazing a company is and their products are... when you cant even buy the damm thing. Stoopid fanboys!
