Good Day telkom mobile.

I recently took out an LTE contract with you guys using an e5776 huawei modem.

According to your coverage maps I should receive full LTE signal.

However I have never been able to get LTE signal at home.

Could your technical division look into this and give me some feed back.

Regards

Surely the first thing you do before committing to a contract is to check that you have coverage where you want to use it?

People need to learn not to take the service providers at their word, but test the service before committing to a long term contract

Isn't a coverage map a proof on the commitment from the service provider to supply service?

Yes, I know it is better to check itself with prepaid SIM. However how do you check if you don't have LTE capable device yet? Catch 22.

The problem with coverage maps is that they don't generally show dead spots. You could have brilliant coverage all around you, but just be unlucky and happen to be in a dead spot.

I would recommend the OP get 2 LTE MIMO external aerials and mount them to his roof.

Spend money for antennas and installation, only to discover there is still no signal? Antennas only help if there is mimimal signal detected in the area.

Their network as of lately has deodorized over the months use to get 3-5 bars, now it fluctuates like a yoyo up and down and sometimes shows zero-bars. Their coverage map is outdated too many users on their network taken up on all the offers they have available. Another forum member staying in my area also has noticed the same problem and we both connect to the same tower.

is there a map with the tower locations? i'm gonna buy an aerial but it needs to be pointed to the tower!

For tower locations PM rep, with your details. They also should send technician to your place, given maps are giving wrong answer. It could be a single tower in your area, currently out of order, they will know things...

If you don't receive tower location, you can guess location from the radiation patern on the map. Usually there are three sector antennas, as currently there is no many LTE towers, this pattern will show up like 3 petals and central part is a tower.

When you get directional antenna, use laptop to position antenna to the tower. MDMA will help to distinguish between direct and reflected signal by meassuring RSSI and SNR value.

With all due respect, don't waste your time. Five mails back and forth and weeks later a guy rocks up at my place, clueless, armed with an Android phone and the OpenSignal app - which is rubbish. You're better off testing directions and measured dBm yourself, than relying on Telkom for the info.

Remember they "will only know things" if you are in coverage, which luckily you are. I would personally press them to solve the problem at their expense.

I have sent a PM to the rep the day before I posted on MyBB. I have still not received a response!

In such case they are aware of the situation in your area and are unable to solve at the moment. I am afraid external antenna can't help either. Print the coverage map in case it is changed, take it back to the outlet and request termination with full refund of money.

A Telkom Mobile technician called today to set up an appointment for monday. He wants to view the property to decide what needs to be done.

I will keep you guys posted.

Had the Telkom guys over on monday afternoon. They were perplexed that even their fancy routers and modems couldn’t get LTE signal at my place. They even tried a poynting signal booster.

Apparently the signal from the tower needs to be adjusted. I'm about 1km within the edge of Telkom Mobile's GAURANTEED LTE coverage map!!! and about 1.5km from the tower.

I'm not impressed.

Waiting for TM correspondence.

Seems like they are really trying to help you. Hope it turns out positive.

Wait...what?? Please clarify your statement above. It almost sounds like you are saying you are outside the LTE coverage map?

I think the OP needs to clarify because this is in direct conflict with the title of this thread. I can tell him exactly what will happen if he's *not* in the coverage zone. Let's not go there for now.
