NO more ADSL SELF Install ???

Has anyone else realised that when you ask for a ADSL line with self install Telkom says that they cant give it to you...??? Someone in Telkom told me that they just trying to make some money out of you.

not so sure about that, friend of mine did self install with no hassles at her folks place 2 weeks ago and is picking up her self install kit for her flat this afternoon. She went and orderd from the Telkom shop at Greenacres Port Elizabeth.
 
Agreed, A friend of mine did his self install a couple of weeks ago ;/
 
As far as I understand from Telkom (I'm in the process of getting ADSL - again...) you cannot do a self-install when you request a NEW PHONE LINE for ADSL.

However, if you order a home line first, and then do a ADSL request you can do an ADSL self install. Either way they seem to want to charge some kind of installation fee somewhere, or the process will be taking longer... :|

SO for the plus side :
What the helpful Telkom lady in the orders department suggested, is to first request a Closer 2 package installation on a basic home line, which comes with free line installation (apparently). Then cancel that, reverting down to a phone line only service, and request an ADSL connection, and do a self install, essentially saving you both installation fees.

I'll be finding out how this pans out shortly...
 
when getting a new line and wanting self install

1) apply for just the line

2) wait 5 daes, Then apply for dsl on the allready existing line.


thats what i did anyways, otherwise its freaking close to R1k....
 
Well I am happy today I actually got ADSL Yipee!!!!
 
I also went the Closer loophole route. I did not have a line so I ordered a Closer 1. Once I had my line, I got a Cybersmart oneprice account.

No telscum install fees :)

Why do you need to wait 5 days before ordering the ADSL? Why can you order the ADSL a day after they installed the line? :)

I was wondering the same thing. I had line reinstalled last month and ordered DSL the day after :3

Also self-install, for the record.
 
Because, sometimes, if you're really lucky, the operational procedure leaves your order in an open state after the line installation, part of the service excellence.

i.e. While your order is still open, you cannot order something else, and have to wait for somebody somewhere in the teklom mesh to close your order. For me, this took 3 days.
