Hi,

I recently signed up for the Uncapped Lite Internet service from MTN. As part of the service contract you get a Huawei E367 3G modem. If I plug the E367 modem into the USB port on my Netgear DGN2200M router, I receive a "detecting modem", and occasionally a "scanning" message when I monitor the connection through the router's web configuration interface. However the system never connects to the Internet.

If I connect the E367 modem directly to my PC, I connect to the Internet, no problem. I get 3G connectivity that varies between HSDPA and HSUPA+. So I can certainly confirm that the modem works, and I can connect to the MTN network. I have an old 8.ta prepaid simcard, and if I put the simcard into the MTN E367 modem, and plug the modem into the USB port on the router, then I can connect to the Internet too. So I think that probably proves that the system hardware (modem and router) both work, and when connecting through 8.ta as the service provider, can connect to the Internet.

It seems that it is just when I try to connect to the Internet using MTN (through the router), that things fall apart. I suspected that the router had the wrong APN settings for MTN. There aren't many configurable options, and I've tried all the obvious configurations based on reading various forums:

Username: MTN, Password: mtn, APN: myMTN, Access Number: *99#
Username: [blank], Password: [blank], APN: myMTN, Access Number: *99#
Username: [blank], Password: [blank], APN: internet, Access Number: *99#
Username: [blank], Password: [blank], APN: Internet, Access Number: *99#
Username: [blank], Password: [blank], APN: internet, Access Number: *99***1#

There are probably other configurations I've tried, but these are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. None of them came anywhere close to connecting.

Has anybody had similar problems, and if so, did they manage to resolve them? Any advice would be most appreciated. Many thanks.

This is a compatibility issue.

I currently have an open ticket with Duxbury, Netgear's SA agent, regarding this.
Basically, while the website says that these modems are compatible, they aren't.

According to Duxbury, the issue is currently being attended to by the Netgear technicians. Despite calling at least once a week, they haven't been able to give me any further information than that, so no timeline, etc. for the firmware update from Netgear.

The ticket was opened on 21 October - I'm not sure whether Netgear or Duxbury are dropping the ball, but my patience is wearing thinner by the day. At the very least, an update would be greeeeat.

Just got an update from Duxbury today, new firmware for the E367 is available. I'm not sure whether it is on the web yet, but they sent me a link to download it. PM me your email address and I'll forward to you.

Updated the E367 firmware and it worked first time - all good in the hoooood.

The E367 works with the Netgear DGN2200M after a firmware update (for the 3G modem).

I'm sure this is online either on the Huawei or Netgear websites, unfortunately my direct link from Duxbury has expired.

Hi Jacques

As I mentioned twice above, my link has expired.
The fact that you're using it with a Sitecom router, and not the specific one (Netgear DGN2200M) that we were discussing means that my link would have been useless to you anyway.

I suggest chatting to Sitecom (or their SA agents) to resolve your connectivity problem.

He Jacques,

Read you comment, I recently purchased a Sitecom router WL-326, having problems in connecting to the internet when the dogle is in the router. Were you able to solve your problem.
Thanking you in advance for you help!

Hi There,

I have the exact same Modem and Router. Mine worked right out of the box but I've also upgraded both Firmware of E367 and the Netgear DGN2200M.
