Hi guys,

Trying to setup a wireless network at a client but having some issues...When I go control panel -> Network connections I don't see any network connections. It is just blank. There is also no network notification in the task bar. Also when I try and check in Device manager the tree is blank, no hardware comes up at all. I can't say I have ever seen this before....

I tried to create a new wireless connection but I can't detect it on another machine...It doesn't seem the wireless software is working and I can't even check the status in Network connections.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Yeah XP - Thanks, good chance that will resolve that issue....I wonder if the missing network connections is realated to this.

Quite possible... If plug n play is disabled, I'd assume it wouldn't pick them up

If he can't see any hardware at all maybe the account doesn't have local admin rights?

First thing I thought, but the user has administrator rights...I did some research last night and it seems as though some services have been stopped which run the network connections, so will have a look at that today.

Without admin rights you would still be able to see hardware but you wouldn't be able to make any hardware and driver changes.

Not if there's a GP stopping any user less than admin from seeing certain functions. I can tie a machine down completely so you don't even get a start bar and the programs necessary for your work are launched automatically when you log in.

The reason I said this is that generally local admin can see/do anything and general users are restricted.

I've had a specific Driver fault that relates to CD-ROM drivers that mucks with Device Manager displaying anything but whitespace so don't just blame The Policy :)
