I blame myself for converting my external from FAT32 to NTFS, now my Xbox won't read it ... and all my movies are there ... damn MS

Why damn MS?....

They say there is no NTFS support on the xbox... this is not like its some surprise undocumented feature.

Most "consumer" grade devices like that don't support NTFS...

I'm not entirely sure why, but there must be a reason for it...

Another reason against NTFS is the rights management and security aspect. NTFS supports far better security than plain old FAT32 - so you can set up directories that only certain users can use etc - and I doubt the XBOX would want to try deal with that - or with the complaints from users about "why can't I get into directory ABCD" etc .. just a thought.

Realy?blame MS for your negligence ! its all over the net that it doesnt support NTFS, hell except for PC's i think hardley any devices support NTFS.
qucik fix is create a partition on the hard drive format the partition to Fat 32 and that way you dont have to move all the data off the HDD and reformat the whole drive :)

It could simply override it the same way Windows does.

Override NTFS permissions like Windows does?!?!?!?!?!!

Since when? and what edition of Windows are you talking about?

Since the beginning. If you have physical access to the drive you can read the files. Unless they're encrypted.

shrink the volume on our hd and format to fat32 how hard can this be ???

You're referring to exFat, which isn't supported on the Xbox either.

Windows won't format as FAT32, you'd need a tool like SwissKnife to do that.

Alternately you could format it as FAT32 from the DOS prompt, just run format /FS:FAT32 X: (where X is the letter of the drive). If you use C then you're beyond our help :P

google a tool called swiss knife that will allow you too format HDD greater then 32gb, or if you have a Western Digital hDD the tool they have on their website works as well
