Hello

So I was trying to play Call of Duty with my friends, I created a server but they can't connect to it (connection time out)
I port forwarded the required ports and edited my firewall to allow connections to the game.

after hours of research I noticed that when my friends try to ping my public ip, they get time out results..
and I though that this could be the problem. I tried pinging their ips and I got successful results. I even tried this website (ping.eu/ping/) that pings your public ip for you, still the same time out result.

I have a Tp-Link TD-W8970 router, and i noticed that other brands or models have an option to accept pings from outside, but i looked into my router settings and could find that options.

any help to fix this? does the ping thing affect my my friends can't see my server?

Certainly sounds like a firewall issue. Did you check both firewalls: pc and router?

Did you allow ping to your external IP? Usually blocked by default on routers

Look for ICMP echo.

also check your firewall.

Thank you for your replies

I thought so as well, I disabled my pc firewall (i don't have any installed firewalls, just using the windows built-in) and disabled the one on my router. but i'm sure there's something missing probably about the router firewall. i attached a picture showing the firewall settings of my router and the port forwarding settings of the game.

I couldn't find any option about this in my router settings, do you know where can I enable it on my router? Model: Tp-link TD-W8970. I would appreciate that :D

I looked for ICMP echo but couldn't find it :( other router models have this option but mine seems to be missing or hidden under different name of location maybe

On TP-Link, check Security -> Advanced Security -> "ignore Ping Packet from WAN port to Router" Make sure that is not ticked, this will then allow you to respond to ICMP requests.

Having ICMP blocked shouldn't cause the issue though, should be able to connect without this being enabled. Ask those trying to connect to see if they can telnet to port 28960 from their PC. That way they can tell you if the port is open or not.
