Just read this on Multichoice's Website:

"NOTE: MultiChoice no longer manufactures the SD PVR. If you would like PVR functionality please browse the HD PVR product."

http://www.dstv.com/dstvsa/content/en/sa/sd_pvr

Does this mean a new SD PVR will be released, or is this a trick of Multichoice to force people into buying the HD PVR with the buggy software?

Its natural progression of a product...

The SD PVR has been replaced with the HD PVR...

They were discontinued a while ago already, they increasing in value

To answer the questions, no they wont manufacturer another one, and yes kinda. They shouldnt have stopped manufacturing them until the HDPVR worked properly but i guess they made that decision long before they started taking months & months to get the HD software working near properly

In other words, If I still want the Dualview facility, I will have to buy a HD PVR and an additional standard decoder?

No... you'll need to purchase at a minimum 2 x 1110 Decoders.

New is not necessarily better in any world Sackboy....

It will be several years before the majority of their subscribers have upgraded their TVs to HD-ready ones, so I think they acted too hastily when they dropped the SD PVR which was working more or less acceptible (for someone who never saw TiVO in action).

I would rather spend money on another brand and suffer without a standard EPG than throw it away on a DSTV PVR. Is there anything worth recording anymore?

What happened to the UEC HD PVR? Will it ever be released?

Also, if you buy the HD PVR for lack of alternatives, do you have to pay the additional R55.00 access fee or only when selecting to have access to the HD Channels?

The UEC HD PVR is in the process of being certified, and it will have all the same problems as the PACE HD PVR since they run the same software.

You have to pay the additional R55 that you would pay for PVR functionality, and the HD Channel comes with it for the moment.

Thanx TB,

I thought the 'access fee' was for the dualview facility on the PVR, not the recording function.

Still doesn't make sense. Why do we have to pay extra to record programs? It would be like video rental places in the old days charging you extra for playing the tape in a VCR where you could possibly make duplicates, and less when playing it in in a playback-only machine.

There is now a R55 Xtraview fee, over and above the normal PVR + Subs fee... so shoudl you have an HDPVR + 1110 decoder.. you'll be paying R110 more per month to record and watch more than 1 channel at a time.

It only really makes sense from DSTV's point of view... should competition ever really kick in, I can guarantee the landscape will look v v different v quickly.

Not according to the Website. Maybe this is old information, but here is the quote:

"More great news - the only additional monthly cost (over and above your standard subscription) is the R55 access fee. In other words, you pay the same monthly subscription costs for a HD PVR + HD PVR combo, as you would for the HD PVR on its own!"

Yea its only R55.00 extra.

You don't need to pay R55 x 2 for recording and Xtraview

Heard that HD pvr was crap slow and firmware very buggy, my parents in SA have HD tv but my dad refuses to purchase HD pvr, he thinks it's a waste.

Quick question how many channels are in HD??

I also thought it was only 1 x R55 over the normal subs, but a few ppl who are now using xtraview are telling me its R55 for the HD and R55 for the xtraview...
