No WhatsApp on 8.1

Guys, whats the story behind the unavailability of WhatsApp in the store. I'm smelling a rat.

Its funny that they pull it off completely and not release an update that forces a replacement when it is available, ie eg when you next open the app you'd have to update otherwise you can't use it.

Here is my list of the possible real reason:
- Facebook (WhatsApp) is holding Microsoft to ransom - they want Microsoft to cough up before they release their app again. The unavailability is what's making me speculate this.
- Both Facebook and Microsoft are trying to push people towards their messaging app (Messenger). They are collaborating on Messenger using Microsoft's knowledge and experience with MSN Messenger (Microsoft after all owns part of Facebook - albeit 1% or so of it).
- There are genuine bugs that both FB and MS are sorting out, pending the release of WP8.1. But, this argument doesn't hold water for me seriously. Then, why pull it off completely and not just push out an update then?
- Facebook is integrating FB messenger into WhatsApp and is using WP as their guinea pig since it has a lower subscriber base. Similar roll outs will occur on the other OS's. This means WP would be ahead of the other OS's in as far as WhatsApp is concerned.

Either way, I smell a rat.

Can someone speculate or hazard a guess as to what the "real" issue is?

I don't think there's a rat. Nothing sinister. MSFT are working with them on it.

I'm waiting, too. Having to use two Lumias so I can get my WhatsApp messages, so this can't come soon enough.
 
The first time I used it a message popped up - WhatsApp doesn't use some of the features of your version of Windows.

The Settings screen has changed. Conforms more to WP design.
 
Hi Guys, this will only affect you later this month when you get low on your data bundles, but can someone maybe follow up....

The new Whatsapp, has this annoying feature of not being accessible when you data runs low - background data restricted...
on data sense, one can restrict background data when near limit.
The whole point being a safely net of not getting the OOB shark.
Old Whatsapp used to work fine in this scenario, messages would only come thru when it was open, and there would be no push notifications, but you could still use the app.... now one has to fudge with data sense, or your limit setting, making data sense redundant if you want whatsapp event to open.

Damn crappy developers - anyone care to vent off at MS/Whatsapp and motivate them to release an patch/update?

Alright. So, there was no sinister motive in pulling the rug from underneath WP users in this WhatsApp debacle. But, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Developers are the ones letting Windows down!

A lot of them are all Android fanboys or iFans.

I still can't get over how crappy the Houzz app is on Windows 8.1. And its not even on WP. I don't get it. If its the statistics that drive developers, then with 10% of the 1,5billion PC market, doesn't that give Windows 8 150million users? I guess that's not significant enough for most developers.
 
The DataSense issue has been resolved with this morning's update, it will now only show the popup when background data is actually restricted.

You have been disappointed so many times with windows phone OS, yet you soldier on.

Can I ask why?
 
Anyone still having datasense issues, my whatsapp still does not seem to work when i get below 50% of data limit (says background services are limited).
Am i crazy in thinking its still broken, just not as bad as before?

I still have to put a high data cap in data sense to make it work...
