I had a friend who had a problem just like this, but he knew for a fact that nobody else had access to his PC. He only had administartor as a user with no password. Then suddenly it asked for a password to log in. It would'nt even let him login via safe mode.
He eventually had to reformat his PC. Then about 3 months later, boom, same problem. We then did a repair in Windows XP (off the XP CD) and he could login to the machine again.
Could this be a virus of some sorts?

Boot up in safe mode, go to user accounts and remove the password.
I'm surprised no-one else mentioned this![]()

By default safe mode boots up with the administrator account - and if this account have a password, then you're still stuck...
You can try the Active@boot disk... It's a bit expensive, but it has a lot of great tools...
It changes the "Login Details" in the windows form outside of windows...
