The Android handset I use has 8 GB internal + an 8 GB external SD.

I disabled GOOGLE PLAY STORE (GPS) out of necessity since I was not able to find a custom ROM allowing for Android minus bloat. I install apps using the .apk files & regularly enable GPS to check for app updates, then disable again.

Android version 8.1.0 (Android Go); CPU quad-core 1.1 GHz; RAM 1.0 GB

Further disabled apps: Chrome (Opera as browser); Gboard (SwiftKey came installed); Google Assistant Go; Google Go; Maps Go; YouTube Go; Gmail (use "Email" app that came installed).

A total of 63 apps installed. These include: ADW Launcher 1; Calendar (Google); Capitec Bank & Capitec Masterpass; File Manager; Goal Zero (zero data app for football news & scores); Home (Google app for casting); Internet Speed Meter Lite; Keep Notes; Lite (Facebook lite app); Messenger Lite; MX Player Pro; Namola; Netflix; OfficeSuite; Open Camera; Opera; PayPal; Piktures; Runtastic PRO; SPAR SA (shopping app); Spotify; SwiftKey; Sygic (ofline maps & navigation); Telegram; TymeBank; Wala (money transfer app); Waze (most recent app installed); WhatsApp; YouTube Downloader

I doubt it is possible to have a sub 8 GB internal spec'd 'useable' android handset while leaving GPS enabled, while having a fair amount of apps installed, as above.

Doesn't sound fun. I would rather but a second hand phone with more ram & storage.

I also don’t have Google Play Store installed on my iPhone and I can happily say this has caused me no issues.
The iphone is an issue all on its ownsome...

Thus far, only McD's app requires GPS to be running at all times to funtion from my experience.

Just download a 3rd party app store, that will search for updates on only the apps you have installed?

You should buy a phone with better specs directly from Geekbuying/Banggood/Gearbest with better specs for the same price as this Huawei Y3 you're battling with. Most of them come without the Play Store as well. You sound like me trying to get that POS Cell-C Black Smartbox (4GB/1GB) to do anything more than hang all the time.

Never said I'm battling. Phone does not auto-reboot, ever. Obvious lag, but nothing frustrating. Will move to a 16 GB handset when I can (preferably Nokia, as mentioned).

It does everything I need it to, and then some.

My thoughts exactly.

This feels like somebody with a Shitty Golf bragging about all the "mods" he did to his car to make it better.

Just get a better phone

There are threads dedicated to those too.

Please move to your handset-of-choice threads and leave me be. Rant there.
