Noisy Aspire One fan

Apologies in advance if this has been answered before. I have done a search but did not find detailed results. Google has some answers, but I would rather trust advice from one of the members here, as I am still a little new to changing Linux/Linpus configuration files.

Can someone please post a BEGINNERS guide to changing the Linpus configuration in order to reduce the fan speed of our Aspire One? Or at least point me to a simple workable solution please?

Linpus should, by default, have the necessary settings to reduce the fan speed. Ubuntu actually borrowed the solution from the AAO's Linpus:

Scroll down to "Noise (Fan Control)".

Ubuntu 9.04, by default, manages the fan beautifully.

I thought it did too but my kid complained that my netbook was detracting from her television viewing pleasure so I applied the suggested fix. Much better.

Hehe. Can't even hear the fan 90% of the time. Even if I hold the vent right up to my ear. Then again, maybe father time is catching up with me

But at any rate, 8.10 required the fix, because the default was to have the fan going at 100% capacity all the time.
