Hi, I want to buy a new phone.
Has to be from Takealot- I have a R2K voucher for them.

I have narrowed it down to the Nokia 5 and the Xiaomi Redmi 4X.

The Xiaomi has much better specs and is cheaper but I can't find it in any shops to look at physically, also according to the interwebs, nobody is confirming upgrade to Nougat nor Oreo.

The Nokia looks great in person, is available from many walk-in-stores. Less great specs than the Redmi but HMD seems to boast "Up to date software" and alot of sites say that it will get updated to Oreo as it comes with Nougat out of the box.

Also, one thing that's confusing me is that specs all over the internet say the Nokia has a Snapdragon 430 Octacore but both Takealot and Loot are advertising it as Quad cores, im not too familiar with Snapdargon, maybe is it like 4 Physical cores and 4 virtual? or something else?

Anybody who has a Redmi 4X, can you please confirm what's the latest Android you are running.

I would prefer the Xiaomi because it seems more value for money but I intend to use the phone till its last legs like my current Xperia Z and would prefer an updated OS.

Redmi Note 4x. 3 day battery. Solid build. You will get nougat. There's plenty of rom support on XDA if you can learn to flash ROMs.

Only down side is weak camera.

Nokia 5. My wife got her's yesterday and is very impressed. Had an Acer Liquid Zest before it.

Nokia 5 since you want major OS updates, it has been confirmed to receive 2 major updates.

I will also be getting a Nokia 5, just waiting for Vodacom to receive stock. Currently I'm using the Redmi 2 Pro.

The Snapdragon 430 is an Octacore chipset. Takealot has wrong info.

The Redmi 4X has 1GB more Ram and double the storage, an IR blaster but is not made of a single piece of Aluminium and you might receive 1 major OS update, after that you will Receive monthly MIUI updates.

Thanks guys, looks like Nokia is the winner :)

Also I found the Redmi 4X at Makro, not as good looking as the Nokia.

Let me know how things go with the 5. My wife's one suffered a cracked screen after only 2 days round the fingerprint sensor. The the screen protector was a lot less cracked than the screen. Not sure if it's just bad luck or maybe bad design.

Take it back if it wasn't dropped or no impact was applied around the area.
