Nokia 5800 an iPhone killer?

It has 8GB card in the box.

I like that "The poor mans iPhone"
But imo any phone that doesnt have the touch screen response of the iPhone cannot be an iPhone killer.

Bet those scratches referred to were just lines cut through the smudges made by fingers.

Had the same "problem" with mine- I thought I had scratched the screen on the first day. With a wipe, all the "scratches" disappear. I am carfeul to make sure U have a clean screen/stylus before swiping it or my fingers across the screen. At R5k, I am stoked with my wolfsheep:D

I have had mine for over a month now, I haven't had any problems with scratches... Tom Manners maybe try an oil reducing face wash... those aren't scratches.

Apart from that, the only thing I can fault with the phone is the firmware, but this is Vodacoms fault as they haven't bothered to release any updated ones yet (they said maybe in April). It comes with the original firmware which has a lot of bugs!

I am a huge Nokia and Symbian fan - but the 5800XM is nowhere close to the iPhone. Remember, this is a 5xxx range phone, they are meant to be cheap and mid-market phones for people with an active livestyle.

While I am impressed with the effort and I have played with a 5800 and it is a nifty gadget, I would call it a BETA product. Read the review on GSM Arena of the 5800 and you will see why.

Symbian 9.4 still has a long way to go so lets how the Omnia HD and N97 pans out later in the year.

In terms on sales volume and not having to be associated with a bunch of smug-snob users the 5800 is a winner :p

So rouxenater was wrong the 5800 did not live up to his expectations... :p
no surprise there...

And why is there no USB charge? that is a major fail considering that you'll be syncing with a PC almost daily in most cases.

I have had mine for a week and so far it is great, much much better than my old N80. I don't know why everybody is going on about the response of the touch screen, it works perfect for me and is very responsive, I have played around on Iphones and in my opinion there is not that big a difference with the response. Maybe it is the new firmware that makes the difference as I upgraded to the latest version as soon as I got it. I watched videos on you tube about this phone and in some videos the response also sucked but that is not the case with mine. It can also run programs in the background unlike the iPhone and has MMS unlike the iPhone. Lots of apps are available already as it uses symbian. In my book this phone is a winner, I wanted an iPhone before but now that I have this phone at a much cheaper price I am happy. It does everything I want and more. Definitely a wolf in sheep's clothes, watch out iPhone!

omnia baby!

Guess that is also a matter of opinion, used my friend's omnia for two weeks before I got the 5800 and I will much rater have this phone than the omnia. I showed my phone to my friend that has the omnia and he also will rather have this phone.

The iPhone has already responded with iPhone OS3, better luck next time Nokia ;)

why whould nokia give a fck about the iphone really? Nokia isnt really loosing significant market share to the iphone. And anyone who cares more about function over "brand" whould be inteligent enough to realize that with the iphone you pay more for less

A bigger screen always goes down well. Touch screen is the future.:)

Robots are the future..bigger screens aswell..but that is such a measly excuse to exclude buttons, google n97 to see how the big boys do big screens on phones, iphone is out dated apple trash

I think you mean the n98. Nice phone.:D

I've had my iPhone for more than a year, when OS 3 is released it will be up to date and make use of new features and games like Sims 3 for iPhone, no other phone offers this value for money, with Nokia you have to buy a new phone to make use of a major OS update.

Best value phone I've bought and it still looks brand new!

What grown-up man wants to play Sims on their fcking phone? And wow, so you waited a whole year just to copy and paste ? shame that feature shipped with the first S60 phones years ago, And dont know if you ever heard about cellphone contracts? And manage to never really feel inclined to by a new phone all that often..strange I know.
My E71 is only 6months old but I wont trade it for 3 iphones. All the iphone is in the end is an ipod that can phone..deal with it

omnia baby!

As long as it is omniaHD with Symbian 9.4 :D The normal omnia sucks.

No, it did not, but still I am impressed and from what I have seen of comming touch models from Nokia, like the N97, I am sure it will crush the iPhone. Besides, in the segement the 5800 was launched it is doing very well. You see Nokia does not that the shotgun approach to phone making. Also remember, I am only talking UI here - hardware wise the 5800 totally rapes the iPhone.

Give Symbian a few more month and 9.4 will be an iPhone killer. It is already a lot better on the omniaHD with its capacitive touchscreen. I prefer resistive for handwritting purposes.

You are an old man so we will excuse you.

Cause software is just so much easier than hardware.... right.
