NOKIA 5800 Tips Tricks & Apps Thread.....

THanks, i presume i will have to install the full version first, to get the voices etc.

Not sure Bobb....I haven't installed it yet as my GF's account has been suspended from MTN due to some "administrative error"(its her phone:(-mine's coming). The only one so far that has it working and can comment as far as I know is Piesang.

I'm converted this phone is seriously GOOD feels a bit cheaper than the iphone but then IT IS CHEAPER ALOT! It comes with everything and its wife in the box for you for free!
Its amazing so much better than any winMO device, better than the iphone too... only thing i dont like is sometimes you have to tap twice othertimes only once, scrolling could be better. Otherwise its the best mobile phone i've wasted cash on to date.

Hehehe...Now be sure to post any goodies that you find for your phone :D

Worldmate rocks. You can download it from the !Downloads/Applications folder directly on your Nokia.

I love the fact that you can set a schedule to display the weather at certain times... with voice :)

I have seen the appl but didn't know it could do that. Seems pretty nifty. Will check it out.

The WLAN on the phone is awesome. I connect straight to my Linksys router - ant voila!

Instant ADSL access.

Woohoo!

Yup :) and with Symtorrent you can use and abuse any connection you are currently connected to at ADSL speeds.

Two words... push email?
Any program out there that can do that with my gmail imap?

When you setup a Gmail acc on the phone, it automatically selects Imap from what i can tell.

Personally i use Mail For Exchange to sync with my work exchange server and it works perfectly.

Oh, and this weekend i got to fiddle a bit with the GPS and Nokia Maps 2.0. I have to say this device is simply amazing as a GPS. Voice directions are clear and loud. Sattelite locks take about 10 seconds max and the hi-res display really adds to the experience. Used it as a GPS with Voice on max for about 1.5 hours and my battery didnt drop by a single bar.

Got mine on friday and spent the whole weekend playing. It's an awesome phone, can't believe you can get this on a R150pm contract.

And thanks for the links, got me going right away !!!

hey guys,

please let us know if anyone has found a movie player for this phone or please post it on here. i find it very fraustrating converting movie files to flash...and the converter posted here on the first page takes forever during the converting process...so far i've convertered 3 movies with no problems however it take an hour and a half for 800mb ...
very long ...

Installed Garmin XT for 5800, amazing stuff. It seems the std mail client can "push" in a way(not true push) in email settings pick email notifications, AUTO UPDATE. Connect to your imap server and retrieve mail then just use the home button and leave the phone or do whatever. The mail client stays connected to imap server because its running in the background so your mail comes through as its received. Might drain the battery though i dont know i'm gonna leave mine open all day and check

I use Allok Ipod MP4 converter.

I converted Rambo 4 last night. Took a 800mb file 49 minutes to convert.
Quality is very good, 640x360 res, and 16:9 widescreen.

How did you install Garmin XT? Did you already have the SA maps etc? Am quite keen to compare to Nokia Maps

Tks

The "Tap Once" and "Tap Twice" problem.

This is not really a problem. Everyone, or mostly everyone, is complaining about this.

"Tap Once" = Selects the icon/file
"Tap Twice" = Open/Run the file

If a icon or file is already highlighted then you "Tap Once" to open or run it.
If a icon or file is not highlighted then you "Tap Twice" to open or run it.

That should be easy enough to understand.;)

Used the thread on mybb about installing Garmin XT on the 6110. I downloaded the new Garmin "update" ver50.30 i think from the official Garmin site and used that instead of what the thread suggests.
