NOKIA 5800 Tips Tricks & Apps Thread.....

Maybe i just got a bad one :(

On my last 'crash', was busy downloading a podcast then went to OVI and download an app. Right after the app downloaded the theme switched to standard, homescreen icons changed, couldn't access data on card...weird
Sounds like you might have a buggy card, mate. Is your theme installed on your SD card? (I make a point of installing themes in main memory for stability)

Definitely sounds like an issue with your memory card.

I use the memory card as much as possible, with the limited space on the phone memory, i find not having space on the phone memory affects the phone negatively.

Same here. I try to keep everything on the memory card.

Thought as much, yeah all my content is installed to the Memory Card.

Any places you recommend getting a new one, preferably a 16GB? Brand?

Before you decide to buy a new card. I also thought a while back my memory card was busted, but I decided to play around (quite a few posts back).

I connected the phone to my laptop and used standard Windows Checkdisk (right clicking on memory card and choosing properties>tools> error checking). I scanned for file system errors and bad sectors.

It took quite a while, but removed phone and tested. All my songs and data and apps that didn't work for that short period was fine afterwords. Haven't had any issues since.

This was Windows 7 ;)

Cool man, will be upgrading to W7 soon so will def give it a go.

An additional 8GB wont be too bad either ;)

Best place would be Esquire, Transcend or Kingston would be best value for money

For those that haven't noticed, connecting to your PC in mass Storage mode makes the card unavailable to the phone -you may have noticed this already - your theme reverts to default while in mass storage mode. While I install everything that I can to memory card, themes I use regularly go onto the main memory for speed and availability. Be sure to test the theme on the memory card first though - you can't remove main memory and reboot if it's a bad app. ;)

Yep, IIRC I did the checkdisk in Mass Storage Mode ;)

And your message store changes back to phone memory, pain in the arse to say the least, i prefer to switch the phone off and pull out the miniSD and stick it in my transcend miniSD to USB converter ;)

But 99.9% of the time i use the Ovi Suite folder sync to get stuff to my tube. (Only v1.1 though, functionality is missing in 2.0 for some odd reason)

New comer HTC Tattoo

I don't mean to hijack your thread but you are the guys with hands on experience of the 5800 and I would appreciate your comments.

I can't decide between the 5800 (Series60v5) and the HTC Tattoo (Android1.6 Donut).

I started this thread to host the donut fight.

Hey, do any of you know if its possible to buy a new Stylus and protective cover for the 5800?

I am asking this in advance :D I have already lost 1 stylus and was lucky to not lose the other.
