NOKIA 5800 Tips Tricks & Apps Thread.....

It happened to me too. Removing and reinstalling the battery worked.

That didn't work for me....no matter how many times I did it. We're taking it to MTN first, then if that doesn't work I will try to flash it. Only times will tell how all this will pan out.

Hey can anyone tell me is there 2 nokia 5800 phones? 1 the express music and the other the 5800 navigation edition or is it just one phone called the nokia 5800 and u download the application to get navigation for life????please any1

All have navigation which anyone can download if it's not preinstalled. However, at the moment some come with one year's free music and there are others (which some members unfortunately have) don't have TV out - Nokia ran out of stock of that component and didn't tell their customers.

There is only one phone "Music Express"
Maps is installed, but only after you upgrade it to Ovi Maps the navigation is free for life.

Nokia released a 5800 Navigation Edition overseas (I never saw it here) that included a life-time walk & drive license. This was before they changed their policy and made navigation free for all.

I accidentally deleted the email client that comes with the phone and can't find it in the Ovi store.

RE-EDIT: I've gotten the client to work but can't seem to have it displayed on the home screen. Anyone know how?

Tell us what you have done, and we can help you. Information makes it easier to sort out. Right now I can think of a few things:
  • Are you using the correct homescreen?
  • is email enabled on your homescreen?
  • Have you set the account to be shown?

So, v50.0.005 is out. I've updated mine successfully (EURO1 RED) using NSU (149.5MB) - phone is stable, browser and music player are now pretty much identical to N97 in the way they look and act. Albums show mini-pics next to the title... browser auto-full screens itself when page loading is complete, and has kinetic scrolling. Seems more responsive in general (compared to v40), and free RAM is more (to the tune of around 6MB on my phone) :).

I wonder if we'll see homescreen widgets in v60?

Thanks for the heads up. NSU wouldn't let me update so I've done it through the phone *#0000# - can't say much about it yet. Folks, just remember to backup your settings, phonebook etc first because otherwise, they'll be gone afterwards.

Not necessarily, but it is certainly recommended. I've updated 3 phones this side - one from v20 - with no loss of data. We backed up each phone anyway before proceeding.

I went through all the homesceens but can't seem to find the option to enable email no homescreen....

Settings -> Personal -> Home Screen
  • Home Screen may have an email option, depending on your firmware version.
  • Email Notification may be an option, depending on your firmware.
  • Email on the home screen only appeared in firmware v30, IIRC. I stand under correction.

There's a bug where the email notification on the homescreen disappears leaving a blank space, with no apparent way to get it back.
The latest firmware update brought it back for me though, hopefully fixing it for good.

Problem is that the email option doesn't display. I'm using FM v40.0.005, the same one I had before the phone went in for repairs (The home screen email worked then).

Have you tried a hard reset? I had a similar issue on v40 between resets - the email option was selected, but wasn't displaying in my case.
