NOKIA 5800 Tips Tricks & Apps Thread.....

I tried doing it with the JAF toolset. Everything worked fine, but I didn't go through with it for fear of having a 5800-shaped brick/paperweight. At the part where 4 green lights should shine, only two shined...

I also re-installed my firmware to see if that would fix the issue, and suddenly my wifi isn't working anymore. :(
I got the same problem. I clicked on the CNT and APE lights and it allowed me to browse for the files they will use, ended up with this :
MCU Flash file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-356\RM-356_52.0.101_prd.core.C00
PPM Flash file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-356\RM-356_52.0.101_prd.rofs2.V01
CNT Flash file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-356\RM356_0595998_52.0.101_004.dcp
APE Variant file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-356\RM-356_52.0.101_026_000_U01.uda.fpsx

Can anyone confirm if that is the correct files to be used ? I'm not going to proceed with it until I am sure about which files should be used for this flash.

Same problem here - would also like to know this.

Also, I'm sitting on v52.0.007 at the moment. Am I correct in assuming that I should be able to use this ROM? As far as I can tell, you can upgrade, but downgrading is a no-no.

Can't seem to find any direction on this. Some say that you don't need to worry about the CNT or APE if you are on v52.0.007 while other say leaving it results in a brick. Would be good to get some feedback from other folks that have their 5800s on Anna.

That's a screen shot of the files I have Rouxenator (the last flash of Anna I did a while back).

Yes, I have those files too
Code:
2011-09-21 11:31 <DIR> RM356_0595998_52.0.101_004
2011-03-19 07:50 13,068 RM356_0595998_52.0.101_004.dcp
2011-03-19 07:50 4,468 RM356_0595998_52.0.101_004.vpl
2011-03-19 07:50 2,641 RM356_0595998_52.0.101_004_signature.bin
2010-05-22 15:28 249 RM-356_52.0.101_026_000_U01.uda.fpsx
2011-03-19 08:23 42,902,067 RM-356_52.0.101_prd.core.C00
2011-06-10 21:15 112,860,088 RM-356_52.0.101_prd.rofs2.V01
But when I select the 5800 RM356 in JAF then it does not have a CNT or APE for it :

See the files with the red arrows do not exist, and it clear is files that JAF expected.

Do you also get that?

Not sure if I get it, did you check the instructions at Symbian Latino? Is there anything in the screen shots there to help?

Yes I read those instructions, it says something about the CNT light might be off and that the screenshot they use is not right. It says nothing about the APE light.

What did you get when you flashed yours? How does your JAF look?

It's a bit hard to answer you questions without connecting my phone again and doing the process. I can't do it right now. I followed the instructions per the screenshots and everything was the same if I recall. Sorry for not being much more help.

I confirmed that I have the same files as teraside, and after deciding that I only live once, I flashed it with both the CNT and APE light being off, and after 3 minutes of regretting it after pressing the "FLASH" button and realised im screwed if it doesn't work (cause I don't have a spare phone), the phone showed a "local mode" message... Removed the battery, started up, and saw anna epicness :D Hopefully that helps Rouxenator...

Somehow I am not yet quite convinced that I will do this to my only phone... Might try it after my upgrade and the 5800 becomes a toy/backup.

Confirmed. I did this to my 5800 just now and it works.

One question though, can I follow the same process with the original firmware files (from NaviFirm) to restore the phone to original condition?

I’m moving on from 5800 to a Motorola Defy (hopeful I will get it this week) Now only R 89.00 on MTN Anytime 100

I'm looking at the LG Optimus Black, myself. Decent specs, nice looking screen, nice price (free on MTN 350 upgrade).

I have CFW v6.2 and OVI maps crashes with an out of memory error.

Does CFW v7 fix this?

Never had issues with Ovi Maps on the 5800, and I have used it a lot on 52.0.007 (original) and both the CFWs.
However CFW v7 fixed a lot of issues.

I should have added OVI Maps ver 3.03 works fine but v3.06 (bundled with CFW) does not.
