Nokia N95 Patch for use with TomTom Software Symbian V3

Firstly it needs to be brought to your attention that we derive not one penny from any incoming call as this part of the call is taken by the NUMBER PROVIDER and not us. By the way the call may cost the caller 10p per minute but who do you think charges to initiate the call. Not rocket science but people need to examine the facts before making reckless statements

Secondly we have asked for no renumeration for either the original patch or the subsequent releases as and when they are available.

Thirdly we need no additional web exposure for our core business as this is our obviously pda & gps repairs. This should become apparent to any web 'surfer' whom conducts a search using google and such like with terms such as 'PDA Repairs' or 'GPS Repairs'.

You will see we do not offer a repair service for the Nokia N95 or similar so such exposure using the patch would prove absolutely worthless to us as a company.

So lets get down to the 'nitty gritty'.....

We originally developed a patch for OUR corporate base as many of our clients had adopted the N95 without consulting us with a view to using TomTom software to mention just one. Whilst the N95 is a superb piece of consumer hardware it falls way short of corporate structure & application.

Anyone who has dealt with us will know that we go the 'extra mile' for our customers and in many cases do not seek financial reward unless the sale involves hardware. Given our background in front and back end gps software development the patch was quite easy to compile but the problem revolved around the navigation software itself. We are amazed that no-one else has managed to achieve this given the amount of knowledge contained within the forum. To be blunt we are not allowed to alter any software both at surface or source code level. As a member of VERO we would not even attempt to distribute such a solution ...even a free one.
We suggest all you angry guys out there should direct your venom at the software author not us. The patch was initially designed for our own use hence we are asking for NO REWARD.

Everyone knows that the N95 is possibly the most popular mobile handset on the planet at the moment and an alarming amount of people have purchased this mobile on contract on the assumption that TomTom Symbian V3 would simply 'drop on' the device and work with the integral receiver.

We would ask people not to contact us by either email or phone and simply keep an eye on the website as we expect the link to go 'live' very shortly. The patch has been out in the field for 5 days so far.

Does anyone know when the Vodashops (or anyone else that can upgrase a vsp contract) will actually have stock? I want to upgrade as soon as possible.

Thanks

I am with MTNSP and can upgrade from 05.09.2007. Is there any chance one can upgrade sooner (as long as there is stock)?

Saw a dummy 6110 Navigator today. Looks like a good solid phone. I want one & I want it now!!!:D:D:D

Me too, but stock is MIN.... everyone seems to have it except for MTN. I keep on getting SMS's to upgrade... I would if they had the darn phone.

Highly unlikely. If u want to upgrade early the consultant has to send an email justifying ur early upgrade and u cant use the excuse "coz i want that damn phone now lol" They also take into account what package u are on and ur monthly expenditure.

Bottom line.... You gonna hav to wait:rolleyes:

Hi queried about the phone from MTN SP about 3 weeks ago as it was in their mag in stores. No stock and don't know when. Called Century City, also no clue, so finally managed to get hold of someone in JHB head office I think who said end of July.... fat chance. Still nothing. Was going to post on hellopeter, but was beaten to it... response from MTN SP is that they don't have phone from manufacturer. However Nokia has released it to MTN.

Biggest joke is that iTalk cellular have stock.....

Oh well, if you say 17th then I'll take you up on that offer. Keep one for me! I'm already due for an upgrade

Sorry you experienced that. As consultants its frustrating because we get the posters advertising these phones yet we have not heard any word at all as to when we will receive then customers come in and complain that we shouldnt advertise something we dont have and i agree.

Also with regards to release dates. We receive emails telling us about stock and the dates they are arriving then we tell the customer this then when that time comes around we still have not received and WE are the ones that get shouted at. thats why even tho the email said 17 august i said probably end of the month:D

Ok, maybe I should wait 4 more months & then I will be able to port.

Popped into 2 MTN stores over the weekend. Both said it should be here this week or early next... so heres holding thumbs!

A colleague here at work just got one. I like it in Black, it looks very nice. The slider is solid too, far better than my N95. It took 3 days to deliver the phone from iTalk durban to Joburg.

We've been trying to activate the Sim card but no luck with iTalk customer service. Phones just keep on ringing.

Hows the GPS on it?

I am thinking of getting one over the HTC pda phone.

Any good? Like it? Pro's? Cons?

The N95 is incomparable better phone overall, but there is no doubt that 6110 has a far better GPS chipset.

Inside the building, the 6110 took a few seconds to lock from clicking the Navigation button while my N95 was still looking for GPS signal a minute later.

Route66 on 6110 looks good too. On the DVD, they have overall SA Maps and specific maps for regions e.g. Roodepoort. Not sure what these are for.

I got mine on Monday. I am really really impressed with this phone. The GPS works really great. I had it navigating me home the other day, with the radio on also, and the gps voice just cut in when it was giving instructions. I have to add that this was on my bike, and doing 120 on the highway the radio and instructions were crystal clear.

Using the gps in the car with external speakers is also very clear.

Now I really want one! 2 more days to go.... although won't be holding my breath!:o

Me too! :D

I looked at the specs in a side by side comparison with the N95 on nokia.com and it is basically the same phone with a better GPS.

The only difference i can see is that the 6110 doesnt have the media keys or a sideways-orientatable screen.

Quite a good phone then!

For N95, I wish Nokia Maps could pause/mute radio, mp3 while giving instructions. So far, it sometimes cuts the music/mp3, gives instruction but it won't bring them back.
