Nokia 6110 Navigator

Well, if I was guaranteed delivery, maybe. On a more serious note, can anyone confirm tomorrow as a date? No word from MTNSP... even though they promised to let me know.

UPDATE: Just spoke to MTNSP in Century City. They confirmed they should receive the phone tomorrow afternoon by courier. And they are open Sat and Sun. Will be on the phone to them by 4pm.

Spoke to MTN in the Waterfront yesterday, figured if any branch had it, they should, but while they are getting in phones today, the 6110 isn't one of them.

Apparently a shipment arrived with the wrong software??? Not sure how 'wrong' the software could be, maybe wrong GPS maps? Anyhow, they should receive them next week.

Update

Century city did not get stock. And its not on the stock list for next week either. One of the Canal Walk branches told me between 28 and 31 Aug.... Typical :(

What's up with MTN? They have been advertising this phone since July!!

I just got the phone on Vodacom... just waiting for it to charge! Shouldn't take too long... they say about 80 mins.

Dear Valued Customer
Please note that we have been notified by the Nokia factory that they are experiencing quality issues on both the 6110 Navigator and the E90 Communicator. All production has been stopped until further notice. We will be withdrawing all advertising on these products and will be looking for alternatives to make up for these handsets. We will keep you informed on the situation. My apologies for the inconvenience caused. Thank you for the continued support. Yours Sincerely

Please let it not be true. I have ordered two phones. What alternatives can there be? I want the Navigator.

I have recied mine this morning from Vodacom. My experience so far has been great. GPS functionality is sooo great!!. I'm loving it. HSDPA is working and I love the 3.5G indicator.

Good news is they are still sending me one...obviously quality not a huge issue. Also heard that the Nokia 6300 is having problems with MTN sim cards. Anyhow, my phone is in transit and should receive it tomorrow or wednesday....

Well, I got to use the phone over the weekend.... It is really impressive. Basically like my 6680 on steriods (with GPS)

Pros:
* No hangs or crashes at all
* GPS is excellent (sometimes connects in 10 secs other times 1 minute)
* Much faster than my 6680
* Tested HSDPA (www.speedtest.net) and I get 750kbps

Cons:
* Directional button started making a creeking sound
* Buttons on side of phone don't feel very solid (volume, camera button, etc)
* No charging via USB
* Mini-USB and Power port aren't next to each other, so using it as a modem for the PC makes the cables a bit messy.

The cons above aren't really a big deal - I'm just being very picky!

Cheers,
Greg

does it come with white? i know they had a white version in overseas..the glossy black surface attracts those ugly fingerprints man><

i spoke to mtn in cresta(jhb), they told me the same thing that they won't be getting any more of the 6110, but i guess u can buy it for cash from other online stores..its about 4000..

Finally

Phone was delivered yesterday afternoon. Its brilliant so far.... no problems. GPS found position indoors in about 3 minutes when I first switch on. Used it this morning to get to work. No mistakes / problems. When I veered from the suggested route it recalculated in about 5 seconds. Phone rang while driving and GPS voice continued softly in background.

Switched of A-GPS beforehand but for the life of me cannot find the data counter... any help would be much appreciated.

Off to buy some accessories at lunchtime.

Anyone need info, feel free to ask.

--------

Ok found the data counter... where one would expect it under 'Logs'
