Nokia 6110 Navigator

I think the idea is to access the contact ON the phone, not to transfer them to the radio. I can't really help on that - try giving the JVC manual another good read, or try some nokia forums.

As for the voice dialling, the 6110 uses a voice synthesiser. I not familiar with the method used by 6230 (Did it require you to record a voice tag for every contact? ) The systhesiser is like a built-in voice to the phone - this is the same thing that reads your new messages. To make it work correctly you need to train it so it adapts to your voice, since everybody form sounds differently and pronounce words differently. I've actually sat and trained it a few times for a certain word. After that it works much better. I have lots of afrikaans contacts saved, so it gets difficult. If you really need it to work start by playing the voice tag and listening to the phone's pronunciation, then try and approximately replicating it, then move closer and closer to how you naturally say the word. Alternatively, save the contact under another shorter name. ( I thought it wise to save all my contacts with surnames when I got my phone. Now say "Grietjie van der Westhuizen".....)

Are you aware that you can assign other functions to voice tags as well (settings -> voice comms.) Hopes this helps.

bought a new car hi fi -the jvc kd-avx33 series. Now I want to load my phonebook onto the jvc (it has this feature) as the jvc can be used as a car kit. However the 6110 navigator appears to be unable to send the contacts via bluetooth to another device???

Have you tried the Transfer application on the phone? (Menu/Setup/Connectivity/Transfer)

Anybody knows how long this phone's battery is supposed to last?

Got mine last week from Autopage brand new and it lasts about two days with minimal use and no gps navigation, and then just dies without warning me.

Also, is it supposed to charge when plugged into a computer via the USB port? It doesn't look like it's doing that.

Thanks.

I can use my 6110 Nav for about 4-5 days with GPS navigation etc...

Nope - it doesn't chrage via USB :(

GPS and HSDPA kill the battery fast.
I basically always connect the charger when I use the phone as an HSDPA modem.
If I navigate continuously with GPS, the phone won't last more than 5 or 6 hours.

I also connect the charger when using the phone as a modem. For extended GPS use, I connect the phone to the (Nokia) in-car charger.

Got mine yesterday, extremely happy. Full review later :)

Review

K so had the phone for a day now. Phone really looks A LOT better in real life than pictures on the net & the plastic demo models. Feels good to. The GPS took about 10 minutes to find the satellites the 1st time (thought i had one of the faulty devices) but thank goodnesss that was just the 1st time. Finds sat in less than a minute sometimes jst a few seconds, much faster than my friends N95. As a 1st time GPS user i find Route66 amazing, accurate even in confusing areas & the voice guidence good i will never get lost again :) The HSDPA is a huge improvement over my 9300i's EDGE & the browser is nice. Camera quality is decent as good as any other 2 megapixel cameraphone i have used, coupled with the brilliant screen makes pictures look good. Battery life is yet to be determined, but so far its looking ok, was on GPS for about a hour this morning & didnt drop a bar. Still a lot to be tested but so far very happy. Only 1 annoyance so far, the charger port is on the top of the phone  anyway off i got to go play.

Just thought I'd let you guys know that I have an add in the classifieds for my Navigator.

If I want to use my phone as a HSDPA modem so that I can connect to the internet with PC, what do I need to do?

Thanks

install the Nokia PC suite off the provided CD, plug in to computer with provided USB cable. Connect to internet. Couldnt be easier :)

Do not forget to run the Nokia Suite and select the "Connect to the Internet" icon to get going

thanks mate. see you from good old EL. Now, just to find the CD and cable.
aaah, I remember now, they are in a storage garage.

Cheers

I have tried to add the speed camera poi, but the link that was posted here on how to do it is down. Can anyone help?

Speed Camera POI

If you go to extras in the Nav screen you can select which map to use. I also just added all the speed camera POI's

Hi there Blade,

I emailed Route 66 and they do not have SPeed Camera POI for SA. Where did you get yours from and how much did you pay?

Sorry for the delay in replying, yes my mistake, one cannot transfer directly to the JVC. so I setup my old 6230 and it works flawlesly with the JVC able to see contacts scroll through dial / voice dial etc. The 6230 uses pre recorded user voice tags and proved to be flawless.:)

I don't know why nokia persists in screwing us around by changing things that used to work perfect in 1 model which then turn out to be crap in another model???:mad:

anyone out there found a crack / website or hack for the 6110 that will allow other peripherals access to the phone book etc???

otherwise i will get a clone sim for the 6230 and keep it in the car.
