Sorry quick question how do you know it's not connecting to EDGE? Have you check the speeds on a broadband speed test?

speeds of 12-15kb/s are normal on edge, for edge to download at optimum speeds you'll need to multi-thread downloads.

Try downloading 2 large files at the same time, you'll probably see both come in at around 10 to 12kb/s

Just ran a test myself...

one download 10.8kb/s
download using getright (2 streams) 20.3kb/s

Edge speeds on multithreaded...

when i try that it comes down at about 6k each what is normail gprs download rate then?

Errr edge speeds can reach up to 250kb/s!
GPRS and GPRS+ can reach 50-80kb/s

All depending on your network and the amount of users on at the same time.
