Nokia 8: when does Vodacom exclusivity end?

The Nokia 8 makes its way to several South African retailers this week, packing some great features and an attractive price point.

However, as we’ve previously reported, the phone will be exclusive to Vodacom and affiliated retailers. But for how long?

“Vodacom has time to market until the end of October. And from November, we start with Cell C and MTN,” HMD Global’s Shaun Durandt told media during a meeting in Cape Town.

What about Telkom? We noticed that the network hasn’t stocked previous HMD Nokia devices (3, 5, 6).

“The priority from the get-go was always going to be the bigger players, which was Cell C, MTN and Vodacom… Telkom is an absolute opportunity and Telkom is currently work-in-progress, I just cannot give you timing on that…” Durandt answered.

The Nokia 8 packs a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage and a 3090mAh battery. Other noteworthy specs include two 13MP cameras (adopting a Huawei-style layout), a 13MP selfie shooter, front-mounted fingerprint scanner and pure Android.

I think Nokia has a shipping problem, when I went 2 weeks back to Vodacom for the 5 the guy said the phones could still be stuck at customs.

I bought the MTN version from hi-online, Vodacom still don't have stock

I know.. The 5 is coming, but there are reasons why they don't have it yet and it wasn't a shipping problem, but it's something left off this forum. It was due to arrive ages ago just so BTW.

Aah okay, when I looked at pricing, I didn't see the Nokia 8 on their pricing sheet, which I assumed was either removed, or wasn't available yet.

Cellucity said it was dual sim. It wasn't. Honest mistake. 450 for the phone is a bargain. Fast, great build quality and stock android

Now I feel I won't even take one if they contact me. I will wait for my current phone to die completely and then decide what to do. Note8 is very tempting, but pricey.

Aah then I must have missed that, or looked a bit too early. The last I checked on the Nokia pricing , the 3310 was also on, but taken off again, as they are not doing it.
