Nokia 808 Pureview annouced

Bad news for Symbian here.

Pity

"He says Carla is now known as FP1. But it is not just a name change - both upcoming Feature Packs won't bring major updates, HD screens and dual-core CPU support"

It hardly surprises me that they will not be bothering with HD screens and dual core! Why would they? There are already rumours that this is the last Symbian device, or at least flagship, so why would they bother adding support for those two things if there are no Symbian phones to use it?!

And in good news both FP1 Lite and FP2 will be coming to the Nokia N8 near you!

Apparently this is the direct translation of the question asked and the answer given re Carla:

One can say that Symbian FP1 and Symbian Belle Carla or this latest update will be released in the coming months?

Then: Carla is no longer a name we use. FP1 is pretty much that was once called Carla.

I'm sure the 808 fans out there have seen the long exposure images surfacing (Size reduced to speed up load times):

regardless, what is concerning is that little 'problems' wont be sorted with updates ( I assume). No OS is perfect and updates are necessary.

stunning pics!

Slashgear gets it's hands on the Nokia 808 Pureview, gives it a run and concludes:

We’ve come away from our early playtime with the Nokia 808 PureView just as excited about the technology as we were when the company first sprung it on us at Mobile World Congress several months ago. It’s certainly unlike anything else in the phone-camera market, which has generally chased megapixels and only recently shown any sign of putting thought into the lenses and data-crunching those sensors are paired with. If ever a phone could encourage people to reconsider Symbian, the 808 PureView is probably it, too.

As a hater of the (usually) shocking photos of mundane things shared via Instagram I found the comments directed at this application, in another article referencing this one, rather accurate :

Chris confirms that this is not the phone for Instagramers. Well, technically it is the best one if the app was available, but I get what he means. Why should Nokia try and create the Pure Quality only for people to crap it up with dozens of applied filters so the final image no longer resembles the photo you took?

Bad news for Symbian here.

All Symbian fans and users might want to sit down while reading this. According to the Product Marketing Manager for Nokia South Europe Mathias Fiorin, Symbian Carla has been cancelled.

Pity

Seems this news was inaccurate as previously pointed out. GSMArena shared a story on the subject : http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_confirms_that_carla_update_for_symbian_is_not_cancelled-news-4298.php

A couple of days ago we ran a story that stated the Carla update for Nokia Belle has been cancelled. However, we have now been contacted by Nokia regarding this matter, stating that this is not the case at all.

What we know as Carla was essentially the codename for Belle Feature Pack 1. According to the Nokia employee who spoke to us, the Carla update, or Belle FP1 as it will be known as, is not cancelled and will start rolling out shortly. The first phone to run on this update will be the upcoming Nokia 808 PureView and soon some of the existing Nokia devices, which includes the Nokia 700, 701 and 603, will be updated to Belle FP1. Older phones such as the N8 and the E7 won't be getting this update, but there is something else called the Nokia Belle Refresh being planned for them.

The Belle FP1 update is supposed to bring features such as new set of widgets, improved browser with HTML5 support, Dolby Headphone, new version of Nokia Maps, improved notification bar and multitasking view, and the Microsoft Apps. The update will also increase the clock speed on the Nokia 700 and 701 from 1GHz to 1.3GHz.

A video showing the zoom capabilities of the 808 Pureview at 1080p.

First testing of the Nokia 808 Pureview video and zoom in Full HD, recorded with Rich Recording (no external microphone) on a sunny but very windy day in the Netherlands.

Evidence of the "Rich Recording" capabilities of the Nokia 808 Pureview

Mumford and Suns during Pinkpop 2012 in the Netherlands, recorded with the Nokia 808 PureView. Don't just pay attention to the band on stage -- it's far away. Also watch how the Nokia 808 PureView has captured the audience nearby. Don't forget to look at the seamless zoom in the video. And last but not least: listen to the sound quality of it this recording. With a headset. At maximum volume. Try it. You'll be amazed.
