Nokia and Android (What could have been)

I would pay to get N9 with Android..

I know that's Meego, but dam it would be sexy with Ice Cream Sandwich on it.

This phone is doomed even before its release.

It boggles the mind that Nokia is releasing a MeeGo phone while their CEO is saying that there won't be support for MeeGo going forward.

I read raving reviews from GSM http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n9-review-610.php and then I read that the CEO doesn't care whether the platform succeeds or not, he is killing it.
This is a damn Greek tragedy....:erm:

Nokia has been given a massive cash injection from Microsoft... Although, what would have been ideal is if there's Nokia Android, and Nokia Windows mobile...

the N9 though? b-e-a-u-tiful! i know meego is a "dead" os, but i cant help but think that if this phone were available right now, i'd probably get one.. but as a recovering symbian fanboy, i probably have a thing for dead OSs...

side note..the N950 is looking hell'a impressive as well..,,

i heard that they're developing a way to run android apps on it...but dual booting would sell this to me

Considering they both (Android and meego) are both Linux based OS i am sure its not difficult to get android aps to work on meego
on the dual boot option its possible, from past experience a budy had one of the HTC phones with winmo 6 on it, we found a way of installing android on it and getting it to work fully functional....
so i gues we all just have to wait and see what happens when the release the n9

Not sure if it is such a big loss....but ja...so long Nokia...was nice knowing you. :p

I agree with this 100%. You know what's funny? I said it years back when I purchased my first second hand Nokia N70. Before I purchased it I had no idea what that little thing was capable of. Ever watched movies on that lil' chunk of gold? Magnifying glass in one hand and Smartmovie Converter in the other. It was like I was awakened from a very long coma. I was hooked, but dissapointed. I was dreaming of a fully customisible OS that ran faster than my PC with at least a gig RAM and a screen bigger than 3 inches. Fast foreword 5 years and Apple reigns supreme while Nokia fires 4000 staff members and buys out Symbian so they can never use it again and their highly intelligent CEO gets booted. Then Maemo emerged. The only OS at the time that could wipe out iOS and give Nokia a fighting chance against the highly anticipated Android... but no, they choose WM7... looks like they'll have to go back to making gum boots soon. :(

im sure we could probably install android on the phone as a dual boot option,

Dual boot? Why would anyone want to do that? You'd have to have an orgy of custom drivers for the OS that needs to be constantly updated. Ask Sony Ericsson how difficult this is. And my other point would be: It would be like me playing around on the Android interface and then... oh wait, I forgot to do something on the other OS. Let me quickly teleport to the dark ages and be in time for supper. Another day in the life of a dual boot Nokia device.

He was probably referring to have an option ie: play around or great for multiplatform development. The HD2 phones are capable of booting either Windows Mobile 6.5 or custom Android I think there is even a ICS build for it.

I dont think anyone would boot between the OS's all the time, well unless he runs Windows Mobile for work and when he knocks off boot into Android :)

I would love it if we could buy a handset we like and "install" the OS of choice on 1st boot. IE: have the 3 or 4 main ones on the SD card and "flash" your choice when you turn it on but seeing that most users would even stuff that up it will stay a pipe dream.

Look, don't get me wrong, I think it's a pretty cool idea but like you said, users will stuff it up. They'd have to backup the respective OS's every now and both OS's have to be 'friendly' towards each other. It's maybe a little impractical in the long run but hey that's only my point of view. :D
