Nokia E-series

MTNHandsets,
I'm sure you're going to have the new Nokia E-series phones. Have you started testing yet? I'm sure these are going to fly! :) The E61 looks like a winner.

BTW - are you looking at the Motorola Q too?

Nope, we dont have these in for testing yet, but as the article says, they are due during the 1st quarter of next year, so I am sure we will be getting our test units soon.

We will definitely be looking at the Motorola Q as well, but no confirmation as yet on arrival (its had one delay already).

You could easily 'test' these units at the same time as the rest of the civilized non-corrupt world. By delaying you get a price advantage -> AN OLD PHONE IS A CHEAP PHONE!

Can MTN not try and get the phones at the same time as the other networks?

And don't tell me that it is the testing period and the difference in network configuration and so on. MTN is frequently pushing older phones onto the market (alright, alright, so is VC at times) but do try and get that much needed edge, so to speak.

After all, your recent financial reports are not as impressive as what was generaly expected. You need to entice back your contract customers

Edit: I think the E61 is following a trend started by Blackberry (design-wise). I think will be seeing a lot more of these.

@MTNHandsets
About 9 months down the line now, is there any further update on the availability of the Motorola Q?

Many thanks

The E-series has already been released by Nokia. The quoted article is a 2005 article and the 1st quarter is referring to the 1st quarter 2006.

As it turns out, Nokia released the E-series phones in the 2nd quarter 2006. I've already seen local Nokia ads for the E-series in the Financial Mail. They're also available for purchase from Have2Have: http://www.have2have.co.za/index.php?cPath=24_25&page=2.

On Nokia's website (http://europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,,1072,00.html) one can clearly see which phones are still marked as "Coming soon" and which are available. So the only question is how long will MTN take to release the phones to the channel. SA consumers are no different to consumers in any other 1st world country in that we want access to the newest products and the best prices asap. Sadly this usually not the case.

Thank you for the links

I was told that the new E61 is available at Nokia Woodmead at R3050 a pop...can anyone confirm this?

I'm not sure but I can let you know tomorrow if that's okay?

I definately like the E61, I like the huge screen! Pity cause it has no camera, hence no video, etc. I just don't see the use of buying a camera-less phone!

Funny thing I'm the opposite

I've always had a camera phone but have never really made use of the camera

Strange

Actually, the E70 has a higher resolution display than the E61. The E70 has a 352x416 resolution and the E61 has a 320x240 resolution. The E70 also has a full Qwerty keyboard and a 2MP camera.

E70 sounds like my next option

E61 - Why so long?

Why does it take so long for MTN to have the E61 and E70 available if there are already at least 2 online shops who have these phones available and from what I understand Nokia in Woodmead has the phone available as well?
