Anyone know if this phone is being released here?

The Nokia website says it is available. Vodacom say it isn't.

??

Give it about another 2-3 weeks, I would advise getting this phone before anyone else, rather wait for a stable SW then get it.

Err, what am i missing with this phone?

According http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_e50-1566.php

The E50 doesn't even have 3G , only 1.3MP camera and was released in May 2006...

Maybe you're thinking of the Nokia E70 ? If so, try MTN only they have it on contract [which is why i moved to MTN].

I'm sure it's the E50 - I don't want a camera or need 3G on my phone but would like the calender etc and not really keen on bulky smartphone/PDA phone.

Reviews on the net seem to scream that this is not a great phone. Very buggy.

Question re comments on firmware:
Is the firmware country specific? If the model has issues overseas do we not benefit and get updated versions?

I hadn't considered HTC yet.

Was specifically looking at Nokia because PC suit lets you synch with Lotus Notes (my compnaies groupware).

Does HTC support this in some way? I don't wan't push email (pylon etc) just ability to connect to PC and copy Notes diary to phone diary and vice-versa

Saw it yesterday in Vodashop - they just received it. Great looking phone, small and thin. Actually a nice "business" phone for those who don't want the extended features, but like a smaller phone.

great news! which shop? i'd like to go take a look. do you mean the E50 or the HTC?

E50

The E 50 is a series 60 handset, so you can have GPS on it, and it's super slim compared to the rest, battery life is also pretty good,

You can view it and purchase it on www.eXactmall.co.za for R 2799,

wow - 3 points to JK8, he got it all this morning

Of course many phones support GPS, but they are not the size of the E50

...have to admit that the online revies are very mixed..... after reading quite a few my gut feel says 70% are bad and 30% are ok.... none really good.....all feels a bit 'bleeding edge' to me...

So I just got one of these E50 things, will gve my review later.
