@RichardS - I use Bluetooth without any problems. Ca you pair the E71 with your PC, What PC, what OS etc?
The more tehnical details the better the formites will be able to assist you.
Hi bekdik, thanks for your response. My problem has evolved in rather an odd way. Last night after I had updated PC Suite, I could link via USB no problem, but could not via Bluetooth. When I tried to link this morning, I could not link via USB but I could via Bluetooth!
This is going to be hard to explain, but I will try.
At first, PC Suite could not find my phone at all. I then went to "Add or Remove Programs" and "repaired" PC Suite. It now recognises my phone and connects to the internet, but then immediately One Touch Access throws up an error message: "Failed to connect to the network! The modem may be used by another application or the modem may not be configured properly". But it has connected, it is not being used by another network (WLAN is off, no other apps running) and I cannot see how it is configured improperly because it was working fine to start with. On the first screen of the One Touch Access, it says "Connection will be established using Nokia GSM phone USB Modem Vodacom South Africa".
If I acknowledge that message, then it cuts the connection which in fact had been established. If I ignore the message then I can continue on the internet! Behind the error message box I can see the broadcasting tower is still sending out its "signals".
If the connection is cut, there is a message which appears in the One Touch Access dialogue box which reads "Previous attempt to create a network connection with the selected modem failed." If I click on the Configure tab in that box, it asks me to select a modem from the list. The modem which appears on that screen is the Motorola SM56 Data Fax modem (as per my PC), as if it is being accessed as the default modem. Nokia GSM Phone USB modem appears in the drop down list. Selecting it does not make it appear first the next time I have to go through the process. The next screen is to Select Network Operator. This was not correct at first, but after selecting Vodacom it appears as Vodacom on subsequent attempts as well.
I am pleased to say that Bluetooth connection now works perfectly, which suites me because I prefer that as a connection when I need it.
I am wondering if it is at all confusing to the computer that when the phone links with USB the first option the phone defaults to is "mass storage" which is what the PC recognises at first, until one clicks on "PC Suite" on the phone. Is it possible to change the E71 to default to "PC Suite"?
