Nokia E71Tips and Tricks

1. There's a software upgrade available for the e71 - go to the nokia site and upgrade your phone. make sure you back the phone up before running upgrade as it will be reset.

2. after upgrading I now have mail for exchange running and it does a full push from my exchange server. I'm still having the odd issue whereby I cannot connect, but it lok like it will be a viable option vs Blackberry once it is stable. (BTW I can fix the problem by deleteing the profile and recreating).

PS changing the scheduled connection to 15 minutes seems to have fixed the problem.

PPS I am connecting via local wireless connection, so I don't incure any traffic overhead from MTN.

Accoring to the nokia website the version on my phone is the latest - 100.07.76. Did you manage to get something later than that/

*#0000# on other Nokia's... not sure on the E71

It's the same on E71 (and I suspect all Nokias).

@ s erxon - Where did you get 110.07.127 from? I tried nokia software updater and it told me I was current, so I then tried checking with their website and it told me that 100.07.76 was the newest version. :-S

After I did my hard reset the other day I have not been able to get opera mini to run - it didn't appear in my installations folder, but was there if I looked in the app manager. Trying to open from app manager didn't work, nor did trying to remove it. Re-installing it was also fruitless.

While looking at the nokiausa.com (in the hopes that they might have newer firmware) I saw an app called MIDlet Restorer, and lo and behold it restored opera mini to it's former glory. It's at http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/Nokia_MIDletRestorer.sis

The other way to restore/upgrade apps is to use the download tool in Nokia PC Suite

guys this might be a dum question but what does opera mini do that the normal browser doesnt :o

It's a lot easier to navigate with, as you've got a lot of shortcut keys, by using the keypad. It's better adept at resizing the web pages too. Really a brilliant free app!! Try it, and you wouldn't wanna go back!

Strangely enough, and even after reading what fiex just had to say, I have recently started using Nokia's web browser instead of Opera and Opera mini. I am finding it a lot more useable... and in fact a site like MTNActive seems impossible to navigate using Opera Mini. I also did some posting on this forum over the last few days using my phone and it was so much easier using the Nokia browser.... and this from someone who used to swear by Opera!

The one thing I don't like about Opera mini is that the Select Symbol option only works when you are in insert symbol mode which makes typing an URL a bit of a pain.

In Opera Mini, if you hold the fn button (the grey one) while typing, the numbers button change in to T9 like button. Push them repeatedly to get numbers and some symbols directly (without going into insert symbol mode.

As far as I'm aware, there aren't any pre-defined smilies. Pity really!!

My E71 is beginning to think it's a laptop

It wirelessly displays my Exchange email, it can print to my networked inkjet printer, it browses the web, it can process my 'office documents, it can play my music files, it has a real keyboard and the battery life for all of the above outshines my laptop.

In addition it takes photos, directs me to my destination and makes phone calls!
