Nokia E71Tips and Tricks

According to Nokia Beta Labs:

Licences

Your travel guide licences are not valid in the beta version of Maps 3.0. However, the guide licences will be valid again in the final version of Maps 3.0.
If you want to continue using the licences, use Maps 1.0 or 2.0, or wait for the final version of Maps 3.0.
Your navigation licences work normally in the beta version of Maps 3.0.
To check the validity of your licences, select Options > Extras > My licences.

I feel uneasy having to temper with my licence.

Those are probably unsigned applications. You may wanna go here to request for the Certificate and the softwares to sign the applications:

Imserba OR Ipmart-forum.
Can you use Maps 3 and 2 together on the same device?

The maps on Ovi (where you sync) are amazing!

I don't THINK so. I'm no authority at all on this though. I just followed the on screen instructions to get mine to work. Maps 3 has been working fine since installed, even outside SA.

Good. What are the licensing implications. If you are into a 6 month map2 period and then you use maps 3. Is the turn-by-turn guidance free for the beta version or does it use the existing license for maps2.

The license seems to be carried over, well at least mine has been.

Same here. Everything works fine after the upgrade.

Does anyone know how to load a new map onto the phone? I managed to load South Africa but now want to load the Africa one and it's doesn't seem to give that option.

Maps 3 been on my phone and syncing to ovi for the past 5 days. All working great.

I really like being able to create routes on the PC and sync them to the phone. Best feature for me.
Any advice on getting it to load? The Map Updater fails.

the updater fails or starting Maps 3 fails?
I tried the Map Loader, the Map Updater and the .sis file.
None worked.

The error was " application already built in".

Some forums advise you to delete cities and qf folders, but that doesn't help at all.

You might have to remove 2 first before installing v3.

I tried that, but it complained that the directories were missing. I then fired up the GPS, which creates the missing directories and was left with the same error.

Never mind. I'll wait for the official release.

Voicemail notification

When I first powered on my E71 I noticed a Voicemail notification icon on the himescreen, but ever since then I have never seen it again even though it is enable under Home screen applications. Is it just me or its a Mzantsi thing?

How to: Manage IMAP Folders in Nokia Messaging

How to: Manage IMAP Folders in Nokia Messaging

okia Messaging is a new application and service offered by Nokia. You can get it for free (at the moment) from http://email.nokia.com. The application currently is available in beta for all S60 3rd Edition phones and for S60 5th Edition phones via Nokia Beta Labs. With the E75, Nokia includes Nokia Messaging in the ROM as the default Email client to handle POP/IMAP protocols, and Mail For Exchange is also integrated into one user interface. It also offers push email functions. Something that has been taken seriously by Nokia nowadays.

In this walk-through, I will show you how to synchronise your IMAP folders to Nokia Messaging, where you can move, delete and manage the contents of the folders as well. For the purpose of this guide, I will use Gmail, which supports IMAP folders. To understand how it works, Gmail Labels will be mapped as folders in your Nokia Messaging. Note that this guide is not limited to Gmail only, I have configured Yahoo Mail, and also my own IMAP email server for my company with no problem. This also works for those who are using Google Apps For Domains which hosted their email with Google.

Using your desktop browser, go to Nokia Messaging and login using your email which you use to register with Nokia Messaging.

A page with a list of your email accounts will appear. On the Gmail (or any other IMAP email) account that you want to synchronise the folders, click ”Edit Settings”.

You will be redirected to a page with options to edit the server details as well as selecting folders. If you have successfully received your emails on your phone via Nokia Messaging, don't do anything to the server details.

Look at the bottom of the page, where you can see a list of folders which match your Gmail Labels. You can select a maximum of 10 folders to be synchronised with Nokia Messaging. It is also possible to unselect folders, which will remove them from the S60 client. After you are satisfied with your selection, don't forget to click on the yellow ”Save changes“ button at the bottom.

To give you an overview of how the Gmail Labels are mapped as folders, here are my Gmail Labels, taken from my Gmail main page :

Now let's look how it is reflected in the S60 Nokia Messaging client. You can see the folder list is displayed in the mailbox selector.

Hi guys,
A buddy of mine at work has the E71 but can't for the life of him get his GPS to connect. It's all original software...
I've tried and it still won't pick up a signal.
Is there anything you did to get it working?
Thanks!

my E71 makes a weird noise through the speaker whenever I am busy typing a message in the messaging menu and it receives another message at that point. It is as if it is trying to play the message notification sound, but it gets interrupted
somehow. my message notification sound
is turned off. Running firmware 100.07.76
