Nokia E71Tips and Tricks

Hi guys,
A buddy of mine at work has the E71 but can't for the life of him get his GPS to connect. It's all original software...
I've tried and it still won't pick up a signal.
Is there anything you did to get it working?
Thanks!
The GPS should work out of the box without activating anything or using internet even.

Are you trying it while inside a the office? How many floors above you? A GPS usually doesnt work (well) at all if you are say in the basement, under many floors, etc. So try getting out in the street and try it.
Mine usually takes a couple of minutes to connect - sometimes it may take as far as 3-6 minutes.

my E71 makes a weird noise through the speaker whenever I am busy typing a message in the messaging menu and it receives another message at that point. It is as if it is trying to play the message notification sound, but it gets interrupted
somehow. my message notification sound
is turned off. Running firmware 100.07.76
Sounds strange, no idea.

Its called A-gps. When you open up maps and allow the device to connct to the net, it will find position in seconds. My E71 finds position in less than 15 sec when on the road. When not allowing a network connex, it takes minutes. Same will happen with that piece of plastic that you call 6210 :)

I have the net turned off. The E71 also has A-GPS, but with the 6210 N there is no waiting "minutes". I guess there are more differences than I thought.

Thanks guys :) we got it working.
It was just that the day before we were in the car for like 20 mins and it didn't connect. We tried it again on the roof of our building at work and it connected.
Don't know what the problem was but it doesn't matter anymore

I have the latest version and I cant see much difference. Maybe I havent looked properly :)
I think the video seems better.

another thing, A-gps only assist with finding locations and not actually obtaining satelite connection for actuall GPS guidance?

Right?

Did you use a standard method to install?

Ya, I used the standard method - it was flawless. I struggled a bit to actually get the GPS to work (over the weekend) - only tried the GPS once or twice. But I have since formatted my phone (due to other reasons) and reinstalled Maps 3. I am yet to test them (while driving - or walking).

Nokia OviStore

Its Official

Go to ovi.store on your phone (web), choose the download Ovi Store Application (you need an Ovi Account), sign in and proceed to download the application, its over 3mb in size.

Download and install, boot your phone, then go to the Installation folder (the default folder where all downloaded applications goes to) on your phone - there is the Ovi Store Application, launch it, accept T&Cs, u up and running!!!

(Now, if only I can uninstall the old Download application)

Are you talking about ovi as an application or maps?
