The updated GPS firmware on the E90 locks on a lot quicker, but now you can't plot a route without paying for their Nokia Navigation license. Previously you could still get a route even though you couldn't get voice guided navigation.

Are there any alternatives for Nokia GPS software that don't have the super-expensive navigation licenses?

(I tried to search here, but E90 is not a permitted search term - stupid vBulletin software...)

GMXT from Garmin works well.

Tip - use Google to search the forum

Thanks Mike.

Geez, there's a minefield of information on this out there. I can't seem to find local maps for this application and Garmin's website doesn't seem to list anything.

Help!

Hi. Garminxt and load the 2009 maps. You can get the maps on the R10 cd/dvd available at certain shops. Do some googling and you can figure out how to install of these on your e90

Thanks dudes!

That new firmware from Nokia with Nokia Maps really sucks! It was bad before, now they just made it worse - and they want to charge people for it!

It took me quite a few hours to figure out how to get the various resources, but I now have a Garmin GPS with voice aided navigation on my Nokia E90! Wheee!

The most difficult part of this whole exercise was finding the right files. Rapidshare and a few others that were linked to in that thread are not friendly to non-paying visitors, so I tried an alternative and got a virus on my Windows Virtual Machine for my trouble. Good thing I am a Mac user who only uses the VM on very few occasions!! Guess I'll have to re-install XP on there when I have a moment...

Thanks very much to all the members who pointed me in the right direction from this thread and also in the thread that mikef linked to.
